Tire pressure for a heavy racer?

Using Conti Comp Tubies on Hed3’s. Usually pump them up to 150psi. Read recently that rolling resistance is ideal at 120psi. I weigh about 265lbs. Seems like I would need the extra psi at least to protect the rim from getting dented if I hit a nasty bump.

Thoughts?

VERY INTERESTING QUESTION!

You have given me an idea for my next post. See NYSLIM in exactly one minute. I’m going to as:

Would it be more accurate to pump your tires up with a rider on the bike?

Makes sense to me. I’ve read most of the tire crap and bores the poop out of me. I’d say keep the pressure higher for your reason. A nasty bump will flat a lot of tires at any weight.

You could get some tire liners that helps deter pinch flats.

He’s running tubulars. 150 psi is probably too high, tubies can be safely run by most folks at 80-90 psi. pressure should go up with your weight, so I’d say 120-130 psi should be good.

80-90 is lower than I though, almost MTB pressures. Anyway, them tire liners are a bit hard to use on a tubular eh?
J/k.

If flatting is a concern, is shooting a bottle of slim into the wheel a good idea?
