Trying to figure out what is going to replace my current Conti GP4000 tires. I am really torn on what to purchase. Unfortunately the Vittoria Speed tire is out as the the reviews are 50/50, though no one doubts they are fast, just from a reliability stand point.I am leaning towards the Spec Turbo Cotton, just for the little bit more of puncture protection, but at this class of tire, who knows. I have also heard rumblings that the Conti SS is a very good tire, but can’t find much information as to why (better aerodynamics?)…
Whatever I purchase will be inflated using latex tubes and will be wrapped around HED Jet+ wheels. This will also be a race day only tire.
I’m running a Conti SS 20 on my front Jet9+, and a SS 23 out back on my C2 disk for time trials…with latex tubes. No issues in several years of racing them.
I have a new Corsa Speed but I think I’m just going to sell it as I’ve been plucking SS off the classifieds and I have enough for quite a while

Less rr. I don’t care about comfort as my longest race is 40k. Honestly even the 20 up front on the jet with the latex tube rides really smooth, and I run 100 psi.
23 or 25mm GP TT out back. Some are running the 20mm SS up front on the Jet+ rims (it’s a very fast… probably the fastest… choice). I run the 22mm Attack.
Ran turbo cottons last year but switched to ss and TT’s this year. Both have a better rolling resistance than the TC and probably better aero properties.

Recommendations?
We (with the help of people who contributed) did some testing of tires on the HED JET+ wheels, including an older slightly narrow Supersonic, GPTT, and Vittoria Corsa Speed on a HED JET+. Hope the data helps. Data here:
Anyone tried the Specialized S-Works Turbo Road Tubeless yet? I know the S-Works Turbo clinchers aren’t particularly outstanding for rolling resistance, but these have a different (180 vs 120 tpi) casing.
Would anyone’s recommendation change per course, i.e. Kona? I’ve always run GP4000SII (23mm F&R) with light butyl tubes, but am looking at changing for Kona this year. Given I’ve never used latex or sealant, and will be travelling quite a ways to get to Kona, for my sanity and stress in race week, I believe I’ll stick with butyl. I am looking for something other than the GP’s though, and going to a 25mm on the back. My decision seems to be down to the (new) Force/Attack Combo (very little out there on this set it seems?). Or, a TT combo F&R, or… I recognise the SS is a popular/well performing tyre from the numerous threads I’ve read, but I value low stress (yes flats could happen on any tyre) over performance in (my first trip to) Kona Future races, I might be more likely to roll the dice per se, thanks.

what’s the best site to buy supersonic tires currently?
Easiest and cheapest might be to be buy from this guy on eBay. Ships from Aussie, and pictures show old supersonic, but everyone that hasn’t bought tires for him have gotten the new ones with the textured edges.

Thanks, have been using that site. Nothing on the Attack/Force III that are out now though. Listed as 23/25 (vs 22/24 of II), though many suspect it could just be same tyre(s).

Honestly, you have nothing to fear and a lot to gain from going to latex. The procedure for latex is the same for butyl. For the rear, my go-to recommendation is the GP TT. If you’re not willing to roll the dice on a 20mm SS up front, I’d suggest the 22mm Attack (you can still find them).

So hypothetically, having never used sealant or latex before (but do consider myself ‘mechanically minded’). Arriving Kona >1 week out, ride on current GP/butyl for first day or so, start of race week, switch to new tyres + latex + sealant + couple of race week rides, all good?
