Hi All,
Well, I made my decision, and got the set of H3’s (for those of you that read the thread where i was torn between that and a Jet 60/90 pair… well i found a pair of H3’s on ebay for 1000, so i really couldn’t go wrong there (i can’t even express the huge smile on my face right now).
So now my question is, what tire’s do i put on there. I’ve read things about certain wheels being aerodynamically better suited to different width tires, but i don’t know ANYTHING about that. Obviously I’d probably wanna put Michelin PR2’s o nthere, but they have the choice of 20 and 23?
Any help much appreciated!
Thanks
Paul
Did you get the clincher or tubular version?
If clincher –
Michelin Pro2/Pro3 (when available) Race is the best all-around choice. Very low rolling resistance (29.2W to keep spinning at 30km/h) and average 223g per tire with excellent flat resistance. Faster tire choice would be Vittoria Open Corsa Evo CX (27.1W) and Deda Giro d’Italia (26.4W), but both more prone to flats.
If tubular –
Gommitalia Route du Nord best all-around. 36.8W to keep up at 30km/h, relatively good flat protection, and acceptable weight. Fastest rolling tubular you’ll probably find is the Veloflex Carbon (34.0W), although they’re prohibitively expensive and flat with some ease. I haven’t seen many rolling resistance numbers on the Vittoria TT tire (blanking on the name) but I’ve heard it’s wicked fast – supposedly on par with clinchers. Nice bonus there is it’s only 19mm wide, so a low front profile, and Vittoria makes damn fast tires as it is.
