Tips for Roth?

Hey guys, have any of you done this? I heard a rumor about the current being “turned back on” after 30 minutes of racing? There are some good hills. Two transition areas.

Anyone have any helpful hints?

Thanks!

I did Roth last year. The swim in the canal is great because the wave starts allow you to swim in ‘open’ water fairly early and then throughout the course. The water is fairly calm since the canal is pretty well protected. I used a sleeveless wetsuit and was pretty comfortable leaning towards the warm side. The bike course has some hills but the major hill is down. Compared to the Ironman Wisconsin course it’s a fast course. The run course is ‘T’ shaped - you run out from transition a few miles then turn left and do an out and back, and then another out and back in the opposite direction before heading back to one of the greatest finishing lines ever. The run course has 1 big hill in it and that’s near the end of the first out and back when you have to descend, and eventually come back up, a dam. A lot of the run course is along the canal so the surface is a trail as opposed to pavement. Hope this helps! Good luck and enjoy!

I’m guessing you’re from Mi…haha.

Thanks for the tips. I don’t have a sleeveless. Was the water about 60 F? Did you notice a current in the canal?

What did you mean by the major hill is down? i.e. we ride down it instead of up it?

Thanks a lot!

The water temperature was closer to 70 I believe. And yes, the major hill is a downhill. There is a fairly good climb about halfway through the first loop but the rest I would classify as rollers. Oh yeah, I did not notice a current in the canal. Great food on the run, especially the watermelon!

Thanks again!
