Any tips for getting a top on after the swim quickly? I seem to struggle getting it over me when I’m wet.
wear it under the wetsuit.
assuming the race is not wetsuit legal??
wear it when you swim or don’t wear it at all
.
Its not wet suit legal and its a half so I want to wear something. I haven’t checked the rules but I think a shirt is required, its a USAT race. I’ve tried putting it on when I’m wet with little luck.
still wear it. no reason to not wear it in the water - wetsuit or no wetsuit.
Start at the hem and roll it up like you might do with a sock. After you get it over your head and shoulders, roll it down onto your body.
Trick I heard once and have tried is to roll your top down over your torso and tuck it into the top of your trishorts…after the swim pull it out of your waist band towards your shoulders then slide in each arm.
Depending on the run from the swim exit to your T spot you might be able to have your jersey on before you get to your bike…
If Muncie is not suit legal then I’ll be doing this on Sat.!!

I saw Andy Potts do this at Oceanside this year. He basically just got it on enough so that his head and arms were in place and then took off. It took him all of about 5 seconds. I’m assuming he rolled/pulled it the rest of the way down while on the bike. I imagine this would be done more easily if the jersey were rolled up to the bottom of the arm openings, and you probably also still want to use a race belt, since the bib number could complicate things if pinned to the jersey.
The tip about rolling the jersey down and tucking it into your tri-shorts is also one I’ve heard about, but I’ve never seen it done.

I’ve tried several systems for pulling a cycling top over a wet body, and none worked very well. I ended up fighting the darn thing. I got a top that zips all the down. It takes a second or two to get the zipper going, but it’s not a fight.
Pick a top that you can wear on the swim. There can’t be much of a difference in time between the “drag” of the material, and the extra time wrestling a shirt over a wet body. There are materials that do real well in water and on land. Saves a step in transition.
I doing a race this weekend (muncie) so another top is out. This will be my first open water swim (in a race) with out a wet suit. I went swimming today at the pool and I was faster without it.I could feel it catching water. Its a desoto top cool skin I thinks the name.
Either get a tighter shirt, or do the condom roll with it.
Don’t wear one?
