I don’t know who of you out there works in the mental health field but I want to give you a virtual pat on the back. I have seen what a tough job it can be first hand. It takes a really special person to work in this field. Because of you folks my daughter has almost gone 6 months without a recurrence of a suicide attempt. She’s about to become a senior and is now looking at colleges. I can’t thank you all enough for helping to keep my daughter alive. You really make a difference in people’s lives.
Very glad to hear that your daughter has done so well. My son had some issues when he was younger and a psychologist did wonders for him.
I have an office in a large Victorian era building that is chalked fulled of psychologists, counselling services and social workers. As a chiropractor, I am the only one that is doing something different. I tell them all the time that I have the easiest job in the building because I only deal with physical pain. Also, the receptionists have told me that they can always tell who is coming to see me because they always smile. My hats off to mental health workers also. Its a tough job. Ironically, my first degree was in psychology (after I dropped out of engineering). At one time I wanted to pursue a PHD in psychology.

I’m pulling for your daughter. Having lost a friend to suicide and seeing how it affects the family it’s something you don’t want to wish on anyone.

We are going through a similarly tough time with out teen. Things are improving slowly, mainly thanks to a bunch of dedicated mental health medical and social workers. Many of these folks are not paid all that well, yet they spend hours each week with my kid helping him talk though his troubled thoughts and anxieties.
