Tinley's Toughest Competition...Anyone done/doing this?

Extreme Hill Climb (2 mile off road hill climb), On-Road Long Course Triathlon (just short of HIM distances), Off Road Extreme Triathlon(.5 mile swim, 17 mile MTB, 6 mile run) on friday, Sat, Sun, respectively. Your overall time is totaled.

Looks interesting, and relatively close to me (San Luis Obispo)

Anyone done or is doing this? Any thoughts?

Last month I did the King of the Mountain in Linville NC.

It was an extreme 5 mile run up Grandfather Mountain, a 66 mile ride with 7000 ft elevation gain, followed by the Grandfather Mountain marathon. These events took place on successive days. It was definitely a grind. The worst part was that I camped out and my tent had a leak and filled up with water between the 1st run and bike.

Ooooooohhhhhh! Do you have the three bikes required to do it, though?

I have done the MTB Tri. It’s pretty brutal, a lot of people were doing the hike-a-bike for one section on both laps. It can be opressively hot. Fun day though.

Well, I do have three bikes, a 29er hardtail MTB, a road bike with a triple, and a tri bike. But I figure I would use the MTB for the hill climb and the off raod tri, and the tri bike for the on road tri.

So Dave, you’re saying the mtb tri is pretty technical then, right?

I wouldn’t say it’s terribly technical, just one spot that has a lot of rocks and it is steep at the same time. Just no way to get traction.

I tried it in one of the early years when it was 5 races over the weekend. I amde it through the first 3 before throwing in the towel. Good thing since it rained all day Sunday and was cold.

With the move to the first weekend in October and the near Half-Ironman race has me heading back up to Lake Lopez. The vibe for the weekend reminds me of Wildflower in the early years.
