Tinley is goating Lance

Read October TriMag (ya, most of you hate it, bla, bla, bla)- Tinely is egging on Lance to do Hawaii. He says if he commits to it within the next 3 years he’ll post 8 hours and win easily.

Would love to see Lance go to Kona but what’s in it for him. There’s a lot more $$$$ just for showing up at another TDF.

One of the few Tinley talks articles that I’ve actually read all the way through. Never happen, but fun to think about if it did.

Goating Lance?? I thought this was going to be a thread about some new, bizarre sexual practice, not another Tinley. I guess it’s ‘goading’.

We say GOATING in Texas.

OOh, don’t believe I would have told that one, brother! What you do in Texas is your business, we don’t need to know!

here we go again…

Texas: where men are men and the goats are scared.

Well, now that Lance is short $5 million dollars maybe it’s time for one of you big money guys to put up some Vegas style cash for the boy to do Kona and go under 8.

Tibbsy?

Dan?

Gerard?

One of the Franks?

Sheezh… NO TAKERS???

I’ve got $100 that says he can’t do it even if he wanted to.

I’m not going to speculate on what his time might be, but I wouldn’t discount him as a possible winner IF he decided he really wanted to do it. You can’t really argue the fact that he has amazing drive and is pretty much on the outer reaches of genetics.

He also started out as a triathlete. While that was a LONG time ago, he probably could have made a career of it at the time.

I’ll give him $5 million if he wins Ironman this year.

No doubt and I’m also one of Lance’s biggest fans. I’ve already given $100 this year to his foundation.

But, this sport is not something top athletes can just hop into and expect to go to #1. Look at Sheila Taormina, another WUNDERKIND, or Larsen. To Sheila’s credit she’s put together the complete package and is almost there.

I’d say no more than a 1 in 5 chance, if Lance started training TODAY, that he could go under 8:15 hours in 2007 at Kona. And, if the winds kick up, no way. Under 8? I don’t think so… It’s too late for him. And, besides now we test for drugs. j/k

". . . Look at Sheila Taormina, another WUNDERKIND, or Larsen. To Sheila’s credit she’s put together the complete package and is almost there.

Rats, and here I was thinking that winning a world championship gets you closer to “there” than just “almost”. Shame on me.

Robert dude, just get off your f*&*ing ‘everyone is on drugs’ kick. You don’t have to throw that into every post about everyone. Sounds like you are the only clean guy on the planet lately. Loosen up man.

Last time I checked, Sheila T is the complete package, and if winning multiple half ironmans and ironman lake placid does not qualify as the “full package” I am not sure what Larsen has to do to meet your standard of the full package.

Perhaps he needs to submit himself to the ‘Robert’ drug test police, cause clearly the rest of the world’s drug police are inadequate. Maybe I am cranking cause I’m at work a bit late on Friday evening, but you need to get off your high horse my friend. Its a public forum and you don’t need to be slandering everyone on every possible occaision.

We were talking about Kona wins here and being number 1 in the world.

-Robert

I don’t think everyone is on drugs. And I was kidding about the Lance drug allegations. What does j/k mean to you?

As I note above we were talking about Lance in the context of Kona, so my comment about Sheila was meant in the context of Kona. Also, Sheila isn’t ranked #1 in the world. I wasn’t damning Sheila or Larsen, simply implying they haven’t won Kona and neither has gone under 8, last time I checked.

High horses are everywhere these days.

Why couldn’t he win?
He has a mungtungous aerobic base from which to build and he used to do “ok” as a triathlete in his late teens, so he has the skills to swim and run.

To me, the one thing he’ll have to overcome is habituating his quads to take the impact of long runs- but he’s shown in the past that he’s adept at overcoming some adversity.

If he set his mind to do it, I’d have to believe that he could win Kona.

"I’d have to believe that he could win Kona. "

He also did more than just “ok” as a triathlon. Wasn’t he national junior champ and even at times beat an older Mark Allen?

No doubt in my mind Lance could win Kona if he really wanted, but it’s still small stuff compared to a 7th TDF so he’s not interested.

“mungtungous”

You win!

Lance will buy Oprah a new Trek OCLV (Optimum Cracking Low Value) bike and the two will go to Kona with Dr. Phil driving behind them in a new Pontiac covered in a special custom Nike “swoosh” paint job…The two will do the entire course together helping each other on - moral support provided by Phil in the Pontiac on a PA system yelling words of encouragement…Dr. Phil, even in the coolness of the cars A/C will still actually sweat more than Oprah and Lance combined and end up in the medical tent for re-hydration.
