Tinley, Browning, Huddle

I once heard a story about (I think) Scott Tinley and Ray Browning leading the bike at Ironman Canada about 30 miles or so into the ride, when Paul Huddle (again… I think) caught them. As he rode up to them he said, "You guys want to go long today???"

Does this story ring a bell with anyone? Does anyone know what year? I always thought that was really funny in an understated sort of way.

Thanks,
Ray

I’m not sure if Huddle made it up, but he used to say that all the time…He was a crack up, and if you follow any of his writings, or his on air stuff, you can see where it all comes from…He could write a really funny shithouse book, of the one liners he has in his 8 lb. brain…

You guys want to go long today???"

Classic Huddle.

He was one of the original clowns that kept things light when everyone was getting waaaay to serious! And he still fullfils this needed role in an outstanding way. Huddle was also the first to start putting really “out there” Job Descriptions on his IM entry forms, like Lounge Singer, Male Stripper, because for some reason they printed this info verbatim in the race programs, results and literature. Now everyone does this.

However, Paul was also a great athlete with many top placings at many races. He was also Mark Alllen’s key training partner when The Grip would really put the grip on when doing his final IMH race prep. Ouch!

ironman should put together a collection of the various pre-race information videos that huddle has made through the years. if they put them all on one dvd they’d sell tons of them.

Paul once asked for a chaise lounge from a aid station at Ironman Japan
.

i love how huddle can’t help himself from cracking “crying” jokes about norman stadler…

The guy is a comedy genius as well as an awesome athlete. Did you know he went back to Kona in 2002 to celebrate his 40th birthday on ONLY ~3 weeks hard training in place of a taper? he still went 10:04 or something!

However, Paul was also a great athlete with many top placings at many races.<

That he was. He’s also finished Western State 100. Not sure of the year though. Even better than a great athtlete, he’s a super nice guy.
