I bought an ironman watch last august for $22 at walmart. It doesn’t work right anymore - the light goes on and off, the time randomly resets itself, the buttons to get to other functions stick. I have no receipt and i know its petty to want a $20 watch replaced, but if i mail it to timex, will they replace. My last timex worked for 4 years until i dropped it into the ocean.
Direct from the Timex website:
The Basic Coverage:
This TIMEX Watch (but not any battery, crystal, band, or strap) is warranted to the owner for a period of ONE YEAR from the date of purchase against defects in manufacture by Timex Corporation - not by the dealer from whom the watch was purchased.
What Timex Will Do:
If this watch develops such a defect within the one year period, it will be repaired (i.e. a new or thoroughly reconditioned and inspected module will be installed or replaced and a watch of equal value and similar appearance will be supplied) at our option, provided it is returned with a $7.00 check or money order to cover costs of postage, handling, and service, and you provide proof of purchase and date of purchase.
Yeah, but they want proof of purchase. Who keeps a receipt for a 20 dollar watch. If i send it in with the shipping and handling, but no receipt, does anybody think they will replace it?
Nope. I suggest you buy another Timex watch so you have a receipt, then send in the defective one on the new receipt. Then you’ll have two watches AP
In Canada, WalMart will take literally anything back, without a receipt. They’ll just ask for some ID and exchange it for a new one. I wouldn’t deal with Timex directly, that will be a pain.
I can’t see that it’s worth the 2 lots of shipping charges to send a $20 watch back. Try walmart and if that doesn’t work then I would buy a new one. My Ironman watch (albeit a more expensive HRM one) has been going for 4 or 5 years now, I hope I didn’t just jinx it.

I’m sorry, but that kind of thinking reminds me of my public-defender clients. Oh wait, they’d just steal a second watch.
Thanks. Serves me right for trying to save money at Walmart. I felt guilty enough not going to my local running store and this just makes it worse. Will try walmart, but if they don’t do me right, what sport watches are recommended for less than $100?
I replace my timex watches every 6-7 years, and usually only need to replace the battery 1-2 times. My Timex HRM though (one of the cheaper ones) started shorting out and frying a battery every 3 weeks after about 15months. I’ve since switched to Polar.

go to campmor.com and look for their watch deals, for example Timex Ironman 30-lap for $15.
Any of the Timexes are pretty much functionally equivalent, so I just buy the cheapest one I can find. Some last less than a year, some go for four or five.
I am a huge fan of the Nike Tiax Super 100s. I have two (for color coordination purposes). A one hundred lap data storage allows me to store most of the weeks work, and the buttons and display are easy to use during training. They cost around $85.00 and if you need less data storage, the 50 is even cheaper. Oh, plus the band looks weird, but it is very comfortable.

Just don’t click on the “view all Timex watches” link. Holy cow.
