Like to hear from you that have tried the Timex Bodylink, Garmin Forerunner 301, and Polar 625X which one do you like best and why. Thanks.
Well, I’ve owned and and used them all.
I’m doing a review, but it will take a while. Lots of information.
You know what, this is a great question. I’m moving this up the editorial schedule. Look for this next week on bikesportmichigan.com
I just bought a 201, i’m incredibly impressed right now.
Have a friend with the 301, the HR pickup isn’t quite as stellar as the polar, but good nonetheless. It’s a selfcontained unit as well…which would be a definite advantage over the timex and polar (both 2 pieces).
I’m running with the 201 and Polar 710 currently…kind of a pain in the ass, but i like the polar hrm and the 201 was cheap.
I’ve got them all. And, funny thing is Kevin’s is my setup too (710 and 201). For long run’s I’ve been playing around with the 301 and it’s working very well. But, I spend a lot of time training indoors so I prefer my good ol’ 710. The 201 sits on the bike. The Timex I loan out to friends who want to measure a new route.
If you already have a good HRM, then spend the money for the Forerunner 201. The entertainment value of the satelite images on TrainingPeaks.com and MotionBased.com makes it worth the investment. If you are always outside and lack a good HRM, then consider the 301. If you spend a great deal of training time indoors then the 625sx probably makes more sense.

ok…so i just got back from my second run with the 201 tonight…during which i was thinking about one thing that might be a LOT easier with the intergrated units.
It would be easier to analyze data (ie garmin 301) for both speed/distance and HR all on the same graph
otherwise…other than the fact that it’s SO BLOODY DISCOURAGING training with speed now (man…i liked the ignorance of thinking i was fast), i love the 710 + 201 so far ![]()
I’d just like to add that this is a good question. I don’t have any HRM/GPS equipment for training, and I’ve been wondering about these different units.
Tom, thanks for the upcoming reviews.
I used the Gamin 201 last fall for marathon training. I liked it a lot when running on the flat, straight farm roads around here. When I tried to run on trails, I got terrible readings and kept losing the signal.
I just picked up the s625x, mainly because I wanted to bike with power and getting this running computer that I could use on the bike was the same price as getting one of the biking HRMs from polar. So far I really like the cycling features, but I am disappointed with the distance accuracy on the run. I think I need to recalibrate, though, since my calibration was on the road, not a track. I’m hoping that fixes the problem.
