Timex Bodylink Observation/Question

When I’m looking to use the HR function of the watch on the bike while in aero, the watch always comes back “noisy data from HR monitor” or “no data from HR monitor”. I’ve put a new battery in the HR strap to no avail. It’s come down to straping the watch to my base bars to get a constant reading, but still sucks cuz the watch’s center of gravity just drops it away for me to view it… There’s obviously interference from my bike’s computer right? (Not wireless, Specialized brand doohicky BTW) Anyone else with the same experience?

Could be magnetic interference from the magnet/sensor for the computer. Have you tried removing the magnet from the spokes and seeing if you still have the problem?

My Timex Bodylink has been super (except the GPS receiver can be “iffy”).

I had the same problem. I either turn the watch face to the inside of my arm or put it on my STI levers to be able to see it. I just ordered a 625x and thought that the bike mount might also work for the Timex, at 10$, it may be worth a try.

Also, I mve the strap to my sternum. I was wearing it just below the nips and it would get finicky on the bike, moving it lower and make an effort to maintain a flat back posture while on the bars made it very reliable.

Good point by Miker–Is the strap tight enough? Are you in a cold weather climate–if so perhaps you have not pespired and created a connection to your body–do you lick the two contacts when you put it on?

I will try wearing the strap lower. I was always wearing it a inch or so below the nips, as you say.

Monk, I mostly use HR monitoring on the trainer indoors. So believe me, I had amble amounts of perspiration.

The watch would pick up my HR when I flex my elbow to move the watch closer to my chest (strap), but when stretched out in aero, no data, pain in the a$$!

I tend to wear the strap as tight as I can get it. I do have a small chest, being that I’m 6’3" and only 158lbs. I also wet the contacts with water before hand and sweat profusely while working out. I really only noticed it when I got really tired and my positioning went to hell. Once I moved the strap down to my sternum and kept a flat back, everything worked great.
