For the last 12 months I have been immensely focused on time trialing, and this year has been an extremely exciting one for me race-wise. The other day I sat down to record some of my experiences, and decided to make it into a blog entry (with photos) to share with friends and family. And maybe other chrono-junkees as well: http://ryongraf.com/cycling/2010-time-trialing/
If you aren’t already into time trialing, I highly recommend it. If not a fantastic pursuit in its own right, its a great cross-training tool for any cycling or multisport discipline.
Thanks for posting - always enjoy reading other’s reports. I did the 2-man Open TTT race with Henry Hagenbuch (pro-triathlete) and had a blast. It was literally the 2nd time we had ever ridden together and the first time either of us had entered a TT (or bike race for that matter).
Henry did a nice, quick write-up about the race on his blog www.gohhgo.blogspot.com if you want to check it out.
Congrats on the silver and pushing through the long season!
Good job on the TTT, i was wondering how you guys did. Must have been the good cooking the night before!! What type of pulls were you all on in the 2nd half? Who ended up being the hammer??
Terrific report! And great races—it is awesome to read about someone who balances physical/intellectual pursuits so well (it’s encouraging for me to hear as well). Your research page was really interesting.
Also, a 28mph on a p2-sl? That is freaking manly. YOUR TESTOSTERONE COULD FILL A GRAIN SILO
ahaberkorn, that’s a solid result! I liked your friend’s race report. It’s a blast of an event!
Monty, it was most definitely the Lasagna. We all stayed really smooth with consistent pulls almost all the way to the finish. With ~3mi to go we lost one, then it was mostly me and Alex in the wind. Drafting him is kinda hard… hah.
piton, finals are done! Now I am free to go… back to lab. research, baby!
DaveRoach, I really need something like doing a TT to clear my mind of the noise from research. And that P2SL is the fastest bike I could afford! hahaha. Plus its really hard to find 61cm TT bikes in general…
Ferret and Tom, I hope there is a series as well, though I’m not sure I’m gonna do the whole thing again… Racing in November and December was a bit much this time around. I’ve promised my body some rest. I’d be more interested if the series were, say, top 7 results instead of EVERY event counting.
Really cool read, I plan on doing this series next year (when I get a TT bike), but I’ll be no where near as fast as you…
Hopefully there’ll be a series…
Jan - May 2011, 8 races
Nice. I see you decided to stick to a single calendar year to avoid the “mid-series age bump” conundrum. Do you have the dates and venues figured out yet? I might have to see about making that a priority for next year

Thanks!
Hmmm…half of the events all the way down in San Diego. That’s kind of skewing it towards the southern end of the area, no? With 8 events and 4 venues I was sort of hoping it would be something like 2 races at each…
I like the idea of having less events. And not having to race in November.
Any thought to having less categories and simply scoring them deeper? I.e.: Men, Women, Men’s Master’s and scoring them 10 deep?
Tom, you’re more than welcome to stay at my place for Fiesta. I live about 7mi to the start line and its not bad digs for a grad student
Sounds like a nice warmup distance…I might have to take you up on that
Then again, since my wife went to high school and college in SD, I’d have a hard time talking them into staying home…plus, we’ve got friends we can usually stay with in Carmel Valley
