Is there much difference in performance between the Time RXE and the RXS pedals? There is only 5gr difference in weight, but £30 difference in price.
I’ve used both. The RXS is much better in my opinon. The wieght isn’t the difference. The difference is the reinforced material on the RXS CArbon. The pedal platform is much stiffer on the RXS Carbon, making the pedal feel much better underfoot and nice and responsive with positive engagement and disengagement.
I sold three pairs yesterday. They are excellent. I have two pairs myself. Time RXS is the new Speedplay. Five stars *****.
Thanks Tom, I guess as the cleats are the same you could have the cheaper RXE’s on your training bike ant the RXS’s on your race bike.
tom, what do the rxs cost?

Tom, don’t say that, Time RXS are actually very good pedals, as for the speedplays are merely popular.
I’ve ridden both and can’t see many differences in feel.
But the RXE felt a lot better when I bought them ![]()
All in all, I think it’s the best pedal system out there.
I just put a set of the Carbon ones on my new Isaac Joule. I like them so much that I’m considering switching all my bikes over to Time RXS (I currently have Look pedals on all my bikes).

Tom –
How would you compare the Time to SPDSL? I’m fixin to get new pedals, and it’ll probably be SPDSL, TIme, maybe Zeros.
Five stars from you is high praise. Just curious about why you like them so much. \
Thanks.
SAC – Could you elaborate about why you like em so much, and how you think they compare to speedplay, and SPDSL, if you have any experience?
thanks a bunch.
Reason’s I like the RXS/RXE:
-
Very decent platform area.
-
Duratility, because the cleat is protected by three sturdy pillars and never touches the ground.
-
The fact that the cleat pivots around a point below the “ball” of the foot, which to me makes more sense than the Look system.
-
Very small distance between the foot and the pedal axis.
I never liked speedplay much, mainly because of the small contact area, the poor walkability and durability and too much float. Only good thing about them is the ease to engage, a plus to newbies.
As for the new Shimano’s, they’re my second favorite pedal, to me what makes the Time better is the weight difference and the pivot point of the float.
How would you compare the Time RXS to the Time Impact pedals?
