Timberman race week is upon us. For those of you who do not want to wade through 15 pages of ML’s shortcomings this season this needs its own thread.
My predictions: As much fun as it is to tease ML, wetsuits will be legal. The weather will be the same for all of us so who really cares. I just hope it is not raining pre and post race as I hate setting up transition in the rain and it puts a damper on drinking and heckling after.
Not sure about a meet up but think that the Beer/margarita tent sounds like the place to be post race.
As for the good stuff, I plan to not need the 6 minutes that ML has spotted me. I forget what Dev spotted me but as he will be too interested in calling out his power numbers and riding in the middle of the road likely incurring several penalties , I plan to not need that either.
Chris, I’m in. I’ll be there Friday around 12 noon setting up 2 tents along the driveway.
Beer tent it is, but you guys will probably be a few bottles into it by the time I roll in. I think I’m in the 11th wave, 55 minutes after the first wave. Even if I attempt a sub 5 hour race, I’ll be rolling in around 1pm.
I have no smack talk as I have nothing to back it up with…yet! I don’t think my 12 hour IM and 5 hour 70.3 qualify for trash talk.
I’ll be there- but im neither fast, nor important. My first half, shootin for 6hrs- the run will decide that for me.
In wave 10, projected (ideal) finish = 1:45- i’ll be the one who looks like hes gonna die.
No idea who anyone is, who anyone looks like- but odds are- i’ll be the one with the pink whale on my jersey on race day. (see also signature)
The more I understand about smack talk…
Talking smack from a relay member would be even better- as long as you blame your performance (even if its a PR) on the other two members of your team- citing them as the reason why you didnt win outright.
I’ll be arriving Friday afternoon- hangin in some cheap condo a couple miles from the start.
and yes- pink whale- vineyard vines whale. they sponsored our team for the PMC a few weeks ago, and its the closest thing to a kit or team I have.
Would that be a Vineyard Vines Jersey? Did you just do Park City Olympic in Bridgeport?
BTW, If Chris Thomas is racing, anyone in that age group has a problem. He looked way too relaxed on Sunday as he cruised into a win at Park City Olympic.
But like a true, self-centered athlete, I don’t care about those other two people on my team. They are just vehicles to get me to my run! It’s all about me me me!
(Actually I think we start in the last wave so I’m blaming our performance on that)
yes to the vineyards vine jersey… but nope, wasnt me last week- must have been someone else- I’ll have to look it up to find out who else is in the tri biz.
My only safe prediction … I will come out of the water before ML
I hear he has been doing a super secret swim protocol recently rather than just following the total aversion plan as in the past. That said, I think it is a safe assumption.
"My only safe prediction … I will come out of the water before ML "
I wouldn’t be so sure…if it is non-wetsuit the paramedics might have him safely on the beach performing CPR by the time you come out.
Besides, he told me he was going to handcuff his right arm to one of your ankles right before the start. You’d probably still swim a 27, which would be a PR for him by about 10 minutes.
“Besides, he told me he was going to handcuff his right arm to one of your ankles right before the start.”
Haha … perhaps even more likely, ML will do some magic to increase the bacteria count in the lake … effectively canceling the swim. I am still trying to figure how he managed to get all the fog to Lake Welch for the Harriman …which also canceled the swim.
Will be there for the 70.3…hopefully arriving on fri. 25-29AG
Have not really done a whole lot since Lake Placid…bit of a hip lower back issue(my excuse,) but still think there is some fitness left over. Really hoping for a strong run after melting a bit on the second loop of the run at LP.
Love this race cant wait!!! Bring the heat bring rain.
looking forward to the post race libations. See all there!
“Haha … perhaps even more likely, ML will do some magic to increase the bacteria count in the lake …”
You mean like jump in?
Actually, it would seem that the big difference w/regards to e-coli would be whether or not they get T-storms the next few days.
I didn’t know how they did the measuring until just now:
4.6 Measuring Water Temperature. It is recommended, but not required that the water temperature for a race be
finally determined by a measurement made within 2 hours of the race start. Measurements should be made in at least
three locations on the swim course, spaced so as to divide the entire swim course into approximately equidistant
segments, and measured at a depth of 18 inches below the surface of the water, at points where direct sunlight can
strike the water. The water temperature for the race should be determined by averaging the three temperature
measurements taken. A water temperature measurement should also be taken prior to any pre-race meetings in order
to forecast to the athletes as early as possible the likely water temperature on race day and the likelihood of whether
wet suits will be allowed on race day.
I am in! First 40-44 wave - will be sporting my royal blue Orca mankini and matching wife beater - plus for full effect the white compression socks that have powered me to some decent runs this year! Have been working on my tan so the look will turn a few heads, but I need to make sure my wife does not find out until race morning. She hates it!
Should be fun - I love this race and hope to PR after my RI70.3 5:20 (which was a 5:14 once you factor out my drafting penalty). Long seaon - NOLA 70.3, Rev3. RI and Timberman…
I’ll be there - first half and haven’t trained at all this summer, so just going for the experience. In wave 15 (geeze!) with the Clydesdales. Look to get out of the water well off (sub 30?), but after that who knows. I’ll be in the Aquaman farmer john w/ about 15 holes in the thighs, and the HFP “sportsbro” that was 2 sizes too small when I was 15 lbs. lighter.
Getting in Friday and staying with the in-laws on the opposite side of the lake - might just come over by boat depending on Sun AM’s weather.
