Timberman Course Info

STers:

I am doing Timberman this year and was wondering if anyone can give me some insight to the course. I did a search on the Forum and the only information I was able to obtain was that the hills on the bike appear in the first ten and the last 15 miles of the course. Is that accurate? How do the hills compare to IMLP?? How are the swim and the run? Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance,

Todd

I did Timberman last year and loved it. It’s a well-organized, well-managed race and a ton of fun. The swim is awesome - the water is clean and clear and relatively warm. I remember a little bit of chop on part of the swim, but nothing worth worrying about. The bike course is nice. You’re right that there are some hills in the beginning and end of the course, but it’s flat compared to IMLP or any other “hilly” course. The run is beautiful and the volunteers lining the run course and working at the aid stations were great. There’s one hill on the run course (it’s a two loop run, so you’ll hit it twice), but it’s relatively short and again, nothing to get too worried about.
One warning - on race morning last year, the traffic getting into the race-site parking lot was pretty bad. There’s no need to try to beat the crowds, but you should give yourself a little extra time in the morning.
Have fun!

Did it last year in a storm so swim was very rough…but not likely typical. Bike course has some major climbs early and late (out and back course) but in between is basically small rollers. The big climbs are steeper than anything at Placid but overall it is definitely easier. Run is out and back x 2, one major hill so you go up twice and down twice…although the first 5mins of the run is a low grade climb (and low grade descent coming back) so don’t think you have no “run” legs, could just be the climb.

Have fun.

If you do a search on the timberman website forum you’ll probably find a bike profile there.

Thanks for your response! Additionally, thanks for the heads up on the traffic.

Take care,
