full aero, tribike/disc.
other than a few steep climbs in the first 11 miles, there is a lot of very fast flat and false flat.
Kurt
tribike and also come use it on the racing for recovery half ironman june 10 www.racingforrecoveryhalf.com
.
Good to know - I am doing that race, too!
Did it last year…
Full aero bike… 2 water bottle on frame (1 aero bottle / 1 regular)
Tri spoke rear… Krysium Front.
Worked really well… there’s aid stations everywhere… don’t need 4 bottles (extra 5 lbs) on the bike.
Thanks for the reply, I hear so much about aero but then see the pros in kona with 404/606 etc, Why?
discs aren’t allowed in kona. many think they should be. probably a legal issue.
also, the 808 only loses 4 seconds per 40k to a disc so it’s not a huge tradeoff!
no discs allowed in Kona.
Sometimes in good to ask dumb question.
Tri bike with full aero set up. I ran an 808 in front and a disc in the rear this past August. Like someone said, after about mile 11, it’s a fairly flat, long haul out past the racetrack and back. Really good section to just get in a rythm and let them turn over. The “Monster” is no bigger than many of the hills we have here in Connecticut so I wouldn’t worry about a road bike. Really fun bike course so go aero and go get 'em.
Good luck!
Go full aero, like everyone else said, after the first ~11 miles you can really boogie on the course- this is the setup Bjorn road to a 2:07 bike split and the overall victory-
