WOW!!!

Is that the same race Alastair ran 29:30 (to finish close to Geb) last year? It was AWFUL conditions last year (I don’t think Geb even broke 29, and if so, just barely). So obviously better conditions, but damn, that’s fast…

that’s literally twice as fast as some people run (ie if you run a 29 min 5k)

cool  and congrats to him.

love from,
girl just trying to break 40 min :stuck_out_tongue:

No, completely wrong.

Geb ran 27.39 last year, and Brownlee ran 29:35
Geb ran 28:02 this year, and Don did 28:58

Tim’s run was far more impressive.

That’s just insane. I hope he can have a great year–looking good if this is any indication.

I just came on to post this. Great run by Don! This performance can be taken straight to the triathlete v. single-athlete debate on the Lieto/Lance threads

Btw, I believe that Don is a 3:45 1500m runner, so the man is a class runner.

That is a GREAT run!If I could run like that I would get off the triathlon circuit & step up to the pro runner’s scene. There has gotta be more cash in this than tri???

This is incredibly interesting because when you read his interviews about starting out as a pro, it was the run that held him back significantly and was an issue in trying to go with ITU.

Now he’s consistently pulling off top runs at many differences - goes to show what some serious dedication and training can do if you base off the discussions in his interview.

That is amazing.

And the crazy thing is, he isn’t even all that close to the top of the list of ITU runners that is in my head -

Brownlee, Gomez, Frodano, Whitfield, Docharty, Gimmel, Kahlefeldt… I’d put all of them at or ahead of him on the run. Maybe I shouldn’t? Or maybe they are all capable of sub 29 during a run block? (I think most if not all are capable).

I agree with this completely. This highlights the differences between pure running and triathlon running. I doubt there are too many ITU guys out there capable of 28:5x. Let’s also remember that Don ran within one minute of Haile.

If you were to look at the list of the absolute 10K or 5K best times of these guys for stand-alone races, I am guessing that you would not find a huge amount of variation. The difference is, don’t forget this is triathlon, is that they have to swim and bike then crank out a 10K at close to this level of performance. That is where you’ll see more of a spread.

That must have pissed off Weidlinger.

i dont understand how he can run this time a week after getting outrun by a minute and a half at seoul. obviously seoul was a short 10k course but 1:30 is still A BIG time gap to frodeno. I know he’s a quality runner but i did not expect a 28:58 fresh 10k out of him.

how is it THAT big of a difference from Tim Don fresh to Tim Don in a Triathlon? baffles me.

You know he’s won both ITU and du world champs, right?

Slowtwitch is only interesting in the ftp of Tim. That is what we want to know!

there are more good runners in ITU field. I think (one of ?) the fastest marathon of a triathlete ever is from an ITU guy too (2:18:ish). But it is not interesting, we want to know the FTP! And then we can laugh at the ITU wet runners.
