Tile question

My bathroom has a main area that is carpeted and a toilet room that has 13X13 tile. I found the tile on the internet, but thinking of putting 18X18 in main area (remove carpet). My question is whether or not that will look ok with the toilet area being 13 X13 (there is a door there but still). Thanks

It would look something like this. Yes I was bored and avoiding working…

You could always add a 4" marble sill across the base of the doorway, effectively dividing the areas and reducing the visible effect of 2 different sized tiles…

I agree with snoots. In addition to that, I would put the 18x18 at a 45 degree angle to the already laid tile

When we tiled our master bath/walk in closet we did something similar. There was 900 square feet of flooring so I am glad we went with the bigger tile. (That was a completely fabricated backdoor brag)

Was that 900sq/ft total or 900sq/ft for the bathroom area and 900 sq/ft for the sink/dressing area like ours?

Combined, but I missed the thrid zero.

We had about the same size and issues with our servants’ quarters. Luckily, my Brazilian supermodel mistress speaks fluent Italian, so the tile people we flew over were able to understand what they were supposed to do.

Wow, thanks! That doesn’t look too bad does it?

Thats a good idea too! Now I just need to figure out if it’s really cheaper to do that vs buy all new tile! It’s discontinued but available on internet, shipping is expensive!

If new tile all over is an option, I’d go for it…you can then do anything you like with flow, your grout lines will match perfectly, and you can install radiant heat everywhere…demolition is messy, but not difficult…

Shipping tile is really costly, because it’s so expensive…

Oh… tell me more about radiant heat! Not sure I need that in Arizona???

This repair was in our little lake house so we have no servant quarters. It is five years old and we were bored of the teak hardwood floors They already looked dated. Getting the tile to our private lake in northern Saskatchewan was difficult as the float plane can not handle much weight. Once the heli pad was completed it went faster.

I can send you the left over Teak flooring if you would like, it may make your mistress feel at home! I could have my pilot draft a flight plan right away. Does your heli pad have capability to support a Sikorsky VH-60N

Well, it depends on if your tootsies are chilly… It’s a conductive mesh installed under the tile that is heated electrically. On a low setting, it takes the chill right off the tiles. I prefer the smaller, specific applications - you can warm a strip in front of the sink, for example, or just outside the tub/shower - instead of the whole floor. It’s not that expensive…

Does teak make a good underlayment for the ipe flooring we’re installing in the closets?

I perfer “vibranium” for my hardwood underlayment, It absorbs all vibration and sound.

(by the way teak typically is more expensive than Ipe!)
