So, I have a hankering for a new road bike, and a couple of options for a deal…I like the Evoke, but have dreamed about the 613 since it came out, and, thanks to a potential new relationship, a chance to get a deal on the 613…checked it out this week, and it is Liiiiiiiggghhhtttt…a beautiful bike, all around…any thoughts on it? if you had $3500 to throw down on a road bike, what would it be??
Absolute, total, arbitrary opinion… for some reason I’ve never been turned on by anything Cannondale makes… and I have NO explanation why that is. I’m sure they are great bikes. If you get a chance, take a look at Specialized’s new 2005 TARMAC. Very special bike from what I’ve seen. All carbon, Dura Ace 10spd, carbon stem, fork, AND handlebars. This bike also has the S-Works dampening technology built into fork, seatpost and seatstays. Massive bottom bracket, super stiff. Same price range as you were talking about (actually a little less). The New S-Works is supposed to have all this and more. I ride a Trek and was never impressed by Specialized until recently. Take this for what it is worth, which is not much.
I’ve had 3 Cannondales…sold them all! They are great bikes, built in the USA, super light…but, damn, they ride like a brick!! I couldn’t ride more then 30 miles on any of them. I had 2 2.8 models and a Caad4. I just couldn’t do it. They beat me to death.
Sorry if I offended any Cannondale people…they just don’t work for me.
I just built up a friends 6/13. I’m not to impressed with it. It is light, he says it rides smooth (he’s about 5’6"and 200lbs). It has one thing i don’t like. There are no cable adjusters on the downtubes. If i’m riding in a group, i can reach down and fine tune my derailleurs. No can do with the 6/13. I also thought the cable routing added some unwanted friction. I’m not a Cannondale guy myself. Every one i have ridden was like a brick also. The 6/13 has some pretty extreme shaping on the seatstays, so i could see it ride smoother than previous models. I guess you either like it or not. I would take the straight aluminum, cheaper, model and save it for short crit races. i’m not a fan of the 6/13 color choices either. To many other options available.
