Those of you who race with tubulars

Do you train with tubulars too?

Sometimes.

Styrrell

Too expensive and time-intensive to replace flats. Gatorskins FTW.

No.

Yes. Use conti sprinters withs Stans It might not make sense but I like it

I did until last week when i switched everything over to clinchers. Had great luck with my tubies.

I race with both clinchers and tubies, but only train on clinchers.

I race on Zipps (1080/808) and train on Planet X (101/80), unless it’s super windy, then it’s the Planet X 101/50. All tubies.

no, my training wheels are clinchers and only race wheels are sew ups.

i don’t. clinchers training. tubulars for race day.

rarely
.

Train with clinchers except when I’m on my taper week, then a few short rides with the tubes
.

Until this year, I raced and trained almost exclusively on tubulars and have for 20+ years.

For me, (please note the emphasis) I flat far less often with tubulars. I can go literally a couple of seasons on the same tires, longer with racing tires. And since I switched to using TUFO sealant in them, the flats I get tend to be slow leaks that a couple more drops of sealant seems to take care of.

When riding clinchers, I usually flat a couple times a year. I changed to clinchers this year because Cycleops warrantied my PT hub and gave me a new one laced to a DT clincher rim. So far, no flats (but likely just screwed myself!!)

Train and race on Tubulars.

My training set has Specialized Slime in them to prevent most flats. I use a tiny amount fo Slime in the race wheels. Never had a flat in a race in 22 years.

Flatted today on a brand new rear tubbie that didn’t have Slime in it (I changed it out a few days ago and had not had time to Slime it). Limped 4 miles to the bike shop, they were out of tubular tires (???), called my wife to come get me!!

X2

Training wheels are clinchers.

Train tubeless, race tubular. (Stans in both).

Train on clinchers majority of the time. Will use tubie race wheel for some aero testing. I race shorter courses on tubie. On HIM and longer use clinchers. I am seriously considering using a tubie this year for an IM race.

I flat very, very rarely. Never have in a race.

Clincher all the way for me cause I’m too poor haha.
