Geez. They are certainly making some good moves, which is weird for the Cubbies.
Got Neil Cotts … a left-handed reliever is key in the NL Central … Cardinals, Reds, have lefty power hitters that don’t partiucularly hit lefty pitchers well (Edmonds, Dunn, etc).
Signed Alfonso Soriano to a Hayoooge deal! 8y 136 Meeeel-i-ooooon dollars. Great. The team I hate signs on eof my sons favorite players. There goes the 5 years of successful brainwashing I have been working on. I’m dreading the disownment my dad is sure to impose once he sees his grandson wearing a “Cubs Soriano” shirt. Soriano is gonna tear up Wrigley and Cincy’s stadium (i.e., Homer Heaven).
Re-signed Ramirez, who given past performance is right there with Rolen and Wright.
Signed Kerry Wood to a one-year, small money deal that could end up being a steal if he’s actually healthy and pitches well … or more likely, it’s not a financial loss if he’s not healthy and/or pitching great for another team.
I’m hoping it’s the same old Cubs, where Soriano will have an MVP-caliber season, but their meow pitching duo of Prior and Woods will spend more time on the DL than they do on the mound. It’s bad news foir the Central/NL if Prior, Woods, Zambrano, Lee, Ramirez, and Soriano all have good seasons.
halloween night. little 6/7yo boy dressed in a StL Eck outfit. down here we ask for jokes. he lays this one out: “What does CUBS stand for?” “i don’t know, what does CUBS stand for” “Can’t Understand Baseball in September”
joke from sports trivia the other night: “what’s the difference between the Cubs and Cards?”
“Only the Cards have won a WS in their new stadium”
First the Matsuzaka fiasco, now this. What happened to the trend of reduced spending and fiscal responsibility, bordering on collusion that we were enjoying?
136 million for a guy that strikes out 150 times a year and’s got a suspect glove. Incredible. Yes, I’m bitter because he’d make an awfully nice Met…but not at these prices.
I’m tellin’ ya people…cancel your cable…it’s the only way.
Give Baseball a few more years before we start hearing the owners once again complaining about spiralling salaries. Then they will continue to demand increased revenue from the stadiums (ie. free leases, share of concessions etc.) as they talk about losing money every year.
Of course, they will fail to mention that the capital value of their franchises are increasing. If I owned a baseball franchise that was increasing in value by $20M per year, I’d have no problem losing a few million in operations. They don’t talk about that though.
