Dude is a Christ-follower first, then a humanitarian, then 3rdly a football player. He has the life priorities correct, imo, and he’s the real deal.

He does seem like a great guy. The good news is that he is about to have a lot more time to work on his humanitarian interests.

Awesome. Go Tebow.

These are the reasons I cheer for him. Like him or not, why does he get so much negative press? I understand the positive but the negative, not at all.

So he’s not like other QBs. Thank goodness.

Would you rather have your 2X year old daughter dating Tim T or Ben R or any other football player? Heck there are tons of great football players that are lousy human beings. Tim is a good human working on being a better football player. I can support that.

I’m really excited to see what happens with him after a solid off season of training.

“Tim is a good human working on being a better football player. I can support that.”

If you are OK cheering for someone who is a great person but a bad football player, that is certainly your perogative.

The problem isn’t that he gets too much negative press, it’s that he gets too much undeserved positive press.

“…it’s that he gets too much undeserved positive press.”

And what should Tim do about that? Maybe he could try to be humble and not appear like a cocky, undeserving a-hole. Oh, wait… he’s already doing that. Oh, I’ve got it. Maybe he could deflect the praise by heaping accolades on his teammates (particularly his defense) instead of hogging the glory for himself. Errrr… Wait. He’s already doing that, too.

Well, crap! I’m stumped. How can Tebow put the brakes on all this undeserved press? Short answer is he can’t. But he seems to be doing everything right in spite of it. Yeah. He needs to become a better quarterback. I think we all know that. But as a rookie, he’s already a leader, and if the rumors about his work ethic are to be believed, I would bet he comes back next year as a much-improved player. Add to that the fact that in every interview, article or other story, he just seems to be a really nice guy, how can someone NOT root for the guy to succeed?

You realize that he isn’t a rookie?

If people are going to give him the same amount of press as they give guys like Brady, the Mannings, Rodgers, or Brees, the least he can do is win a championship so he’s not sticking out as ‘the only one of these guys without a ring’.

Some football fans, shockingly, think the amount of fame a player has should be based on how many championships he’s won, not stuff like how much he prays or the fact that he calls press conferences to do pushups in his front yard.

"How can Tebow put the brakes on all this undeserved press? "

I don’t think anyone blames Tebow for the press. But it doesn’t work in his favor, because of the unrealistic expectations set up by stuff like the Skip Bayless video.

“…if the rumors about his work ethic are to be believed, I would bet he comes back next year as a much-improved player.”

I don’t know if he will or won’t, but why do so many people seem so sure of this? He’s been playing football for 20-some years. He played under some pretty good coaches. He may very well simply be at the max of his physical capabilities. I’m sure the decision making and seeing the field, etc will improve as it generally does for QBs the more they play, but it’s not like he was a turnover machine or anything. He didn’t make tons of poor decisions this year. So, why the confidence that he’ll be so much better next year?

Yep. My bad. Second year.

Romo gets all kinds of press, and he’s won one playoff game in what, seven years? It still isn’t Tim’s fault he’s getting the press, is it?

Romo gets too much undeserved press as well. I’d put him, T.O. and Tebow all in the same category.

In high school and college, the Tim Tebow type quarterback doesn’t really need to be a great passer, so why work on it? I don’t know that I have a high degree of confidence that he will be much improved. Maybe he will and maybe he won’t. I’m just saying that I think IF (notice the “if”) the “experts” are to be believed, then the guy has an incredible work ethic. If this is true, I would expect him to work very hard with Elway on getting much better. At some point, you come up against limitations on talent, I suppose, but maybe some focused offseason work will lead to improvement.

Great. I still think your comment is a little naive. Maybe we shouldn’t talk about Dan Marino in the same category as Brady, et al. After all, he never won a ring.

Marino has some pretty impressive career numbers that are hard to argue with, but I think the most common thing said about him actually is ‘best quarterback ever without a ring’

It isn’t a function of talent. It’s a function of time and practice.

The guy is a talented athlete. Unfortunately, for him, he never learned the proper fundamentals of passing, nor does he have the multi-year history of proper passing.

Think of a golf swing or tennis swing or baseball swing.

Michael Jordan, arguably the best basketball player around, and a very talented athlete, struck out in baseball.

It isn’t that he had a bad work ethic, or was untalented.

He just never had the fundamentals, never played the game consistently for the years needed to get the muscle memory and coordination together.

Yes, you can teach someone the fundamentals. And mentally, I’m sure Tebow knows, do A, B, C. Keep arm up, throw like Elway or the other QB coaches have shown him.

The problem is he is running up against years and years of bad form and technique. Not going to change.

What’s your point? He’s still talked about as one of the greats, but according to you, he shouldn’t be mentioned in the same sentence with Brady or Rodgers because he never won a ring. It’s all academic anyway. I don’t think any of the analysts are stating or insinuating that Tebow is as good as Brady or Rodgers.
