sally doesn’t like the stuff at the aid stations?
maybe not
but I remember being highly worried at the start of my first half ironman, in that I just brought a SINGLE water bottle holder
I did the math based on aid stations and figured that it would be fine
I was right, but man I was worried because I didnt have 3 water bottles on my bike like a lot of others did =)

Coach also said leaving the spoke protector on was way more aero than taking it off.

its like a mini disc

Aero trumps weight - the aeroness of the spoke protector cancels out the 40lbs of food.
I did the same at IMLP and IMAZ. Actually left T1 with nothing both times. Picked up a Gatorade at the front of the aid station and racked it. If I was due for some calories, I picked one up at the back as well, drank some down, and chucked it. One carrier, one bottle. KISS.
Why does that jerk keep calling me Sally in his blog???
I am almost positive that coach was accounting for the extra 15lbs of gear “Sally” was carrying up those hills when he prescribed caloric intake. ![]()
I count about 17 gels on the bike, that’s more than one every 7 miles! Holy crap, and then there are the bars in the Bento box. He’s going to finish having put on weight!
300kcal/hr for a 120lb. woman? Seems a bit high, or am I off base?
She could have just filled a water bottle with gel (I’m sure there’s room for one more bottle behind the seat).
