Amazing.
Very cool when he actually bends it. That is clever.
You might like this one too.
I read an article recently about a guy who made a “change” machine that would accept coins and spit out peanuts. The crows learned to fly around and find dropped coins and put them in the machine. The guy was actually making money…
Wait until they learn how to collect welfare.
Don’t confuse laziness with a lack of intelligence. I know many people that have learned to feign ignorance in order to get others to do what they want for them. This crow hasn’t because he keeps trying to get the food on his own.
As an aside, I thought it was awesome watching the other crow videos on YouTube, especially the one where the cat and the crow are buddies.
Then you should hire crows, they’ll work for actual peanuts.
You have a strong point there. Its funny how I can fire one of these kind of people, and the others suddenly become “rocket scientists”. It only lasts for a while though. Good help is hard to find.
Yep. I butt heads with a lot of people at work because I keep assuming that they have similar values as myself. And my values are that I like learning about new things because that makes me more self reliant because I hate going to others to get stuff done. Oh, my values also include accepting change and getting things done.
There is no confusion. One third of my staff really are dumb - they try hard, but continue to ask stupid questions and do dumb things. Another third are lazy - they put the minimum effort in and frequently feel my wrath. The last third are like myself - they show up ready to work, with a smile and continually go above and beyond expections.
If someone from the dumb group slides into the lazy group, they get fired. As long as they put in a good effort, I can forgive a lack of intelligence. The lazy group is kept around, but slowly weeded out and replaced as needed. The top group make more money, are treated better and generally are resented by the lazy ones. Fortunately in 60 days or so the ski season will end and I can lay them all off for another 6 months. Usually only the top group are invited back for the next season. Although they cost me a lot more money, the peace of mind is worth it.
You know, it really makes me wonder what makes dumb people tick. This may sound like boasting, but I know that I have above average intelligence in regards to most things and it is very difficult for me to put myself in their shoes. A lot of times I try to see from the perspective of others and I can’t figure out dumb people besides the fact that they don’t think.
I have always loved wolf birds, Raven and Crows. They are incredibly bright.
Do you think it might have anything to do with your hiring process?
I don’t know because I’m not really involved in the hiring process and I’m still pretty much on the lower end of the totem pole.

I’ve wondered at the same. Instead of being curious, planning things out, and seeking new information/experiences, I think they’re after nothing but ease and to live in the moment.
After pondering my own question for awhile today, I think unintelligent people find it difficult to think. Yes, that may be obvious, but like you said, they just live for the moment and don’t really realize anything about the past nor the future about the choice that they have to make. Thinking about what happened in the past or thinking about what could happen in the future from a choice is just difficult for them. The one thing that they’ve learned is that thinking makes their head hurt so they just don’t think and go with the first thing that pops into their head. They can’t figure out that if they do A, then B happens which causes C to happen which may or may not cause D to happen. Another bad analogy is that if their mind was a car, it is just stuck in the mud. They can keep trying to get it going but they’ve found that it is too difficult to make it move. Whereas intelligent people may have had their car (mind) stuck in the mud and keep getting it stuck, but have discovered ways that are easier and better to get it unstuck. Then, when they encounter a big mud puddle, it is easier to get through it.
Does this make sense?
It does make sense.
It’s hard to conceptualize. I wonder if they get frustrated or confused, or are just unaware, and figure a lot of people are just assholes? I guess I’m characterizing/stereotyping someone who is dumb as mean; not all are mean- lots are happy folk. Are they content where they’re at, and accept that they’ll never push beyond where they are, or are they just unaware?
Are we talking a specific IQ threshold here? Lots of high IQ folks don’t get the whole cause/effect thing with regards to interpersonal relationships.
I’m fully aware that there is not a single person that is intelligent in all aspects. I know that I’m dumb in certain aspects such as dealing with women, but I’m also very intelligent in a lot of aspects. I actually try to apply lessons learned from one topic to another topic.
Anyways, I think some of them realize that they are dumb. Others aren’t and ignorance is bliss in a lot of cases. I agree that not all dumb people are mean, but there are a lot of mean dumb people that are mean to everyone except other dumb people because they can’t relate to others that are different than them. I would assume that most dumb people just realize their place in life but I don’t necessarily know if they accept it or are satisfied with it.
Eh, I’m just rambling. I agree with what you’ve said but the answers are too complex to sum it up for all dumb people.

Stupid: can’t define it, but you know it when you see it.
Do you think it might have anything to do with your hiring process?
Hiring temporary, seasonal help is mucho tough…and he’s competing with a bunch of other employers trying to hire the exact same workers for the same, limited timeframe.
When I think of the type of people likely to be looking for seasonal work in a ski resort type of location, it seems as if the good Captain might be doing pretty well to get a third that are top tier! ![]()
Now the key becomes how to leverage that third to bring “birds of a feather” along with them next year. KnowwhatImean?

Treating and paying them well couldn’t hurt. The trick is providing what they value while still keeping your costs competitive.
