Thinking about going to Slipknot and Korn anyone seen this show?

Coming to omaha soon. I’m more of a Korn fan but love a good rock concert. Fun to people watch at the very least.

Seen them both, just not together.

Korn was more “professional” but both were good.

Bring some cotton for your ears.

Never saw Korn, but Slipknot does but on an amazing show. I’m not really even a fan, but they don’t disappoint.

And to Duffy, I always bring earplugs to a show.

We’re fortunate here to have the SB County Bowl where by law the shows have to be under a certain decibel level and also must end by 10pm (it’s in a residential area). We get good bands, too.

Can go to a show there without ear protection.

It always kind of pissed me off that you have to put in earplugs to listen to music or suffer permanent hearing damage.

I never used to wear ear plugs at concerts - would have the ringing ears for a day after the show but nothing major but then I went to a show where I noticed my ears ringing between songs and it was at least three days before everything was back to normal. Invested in a swt of these - http://www.etymotic.com/ - and love them.

Not only wear them to shows but also when I gig (although that’s pretty rare these days). I’m fortunate to have guys to play with that don’t need to get into an arms race during rehearsal so I usually don’t bother with them then.

There was a Canadian band in the 90’s called “Big Sugar” who were one of the loudest bands going at the time. They were a 3 piece blues/rock/reggae band, and their guitarist was probably one of the most underrated guys out there in the 90’s, as I don’t think they ever really made waves in the US. Anyways, I saw them live a couple times, and because they weren’t hugely popular, they played in smaller venues. The sound was so loud that the thumping of the bass and the vibration from the shrill of his guitar actually hurt your chest depending on where you were standing. It was like the sound was a physical thing you were contending with just to stand there and enjoy the show.

They were kind enough to hand out ear plugs at the entrance to all their shows, at least.

Nowadays we have similar rules to you, concerts are kept at an enjoyable volume.

Yeah, I saw Marilyn Manson at an indoor theater here in town and it sounded like someone was running a chainsaw inside my head. Couldn’t make out any sort of differentiation from song to song. I was also totally fucked up on alcohol, weed and shrooms. Stayed for four songs and left.

I can remember seeing KMFDM when I was about 20 and standing right in front of their PA speakers for the whole show (could literally touch the cabinets) without earplugs. I could hardly hear for a day or two.

I started wearing plugs when I started playing in bands and going out to see a lot of local bands about 5-6 years ago. My ears rang after every practice, and it would sometimes get to the point where I couldn’t fall asleep at night because the ringing was so loud.

Given that my family has a history of hearing loss, I decided it was time to start being responsible. At first I hated listening to music through plugs, but I eventually got used to it. Now, to me, its just what live music sounds like.

The only time I saw Big Sugar I skipped the ear plugs but it was outside so that helped quite a bit I think. Great show and really loud but I think inside I would have needed plugs for sure (and I was young and stupid then). I know a guy whose band played a few festivals with them and he said even people who didn’t wear plugs for their set would wear them back stage when Gordie hit the stage.

I think they’re touring again - I’ll have to keep an eye out if they pass through here.

I think it would be worse for a drummer since they can’t move out of the sound they are creating. Even gigging, where I play a 412, a couple of steps off axis and the sound drops off noticeably so moving around the stage mixes things up a bit.

They really were a great, eclectic show and a very talented group of musicians. Man do I miss the 90’s!

I saw them twice in a tiny basement club with 7’ ceilings where you left feeling like your fillings had been shaken loose.

Another time, they played an outdoor concert on the lawns of our legislative buildings here in Victoria on Canada day. Around 80,000 people came down to the inner harbour for it, and it was an incredible experience. To close the show out Gordie wailed out his rendition of ‘Oh Canada’ while fireworks starting going off over the harbour. I think I was 18 or 19 at the time. Still probably one of my favourite concert experiences.

Interesting to hear they’re touring again! I wonder if they still have the same bassist. That guy looked ancient 10-15 years ago!

Pretty sure they have a new bass player - not really sure of the lineup but I had heard they were releasing music and touring again.
