Things I like about tri

I like buying new things. It gets me hyped and I can’t wait to go train with my new stuff.
I like it when the weather starts to warm and all my buddy’s start training together
I like being in shape
I love to race.
I like seeing my race friends from different areas when race season starts.
I like training
I like reading about ways to get faster
I like helping new people learn how to train, race, eat.
I like traveling to new places
I like finding a coffee house and microbrewery in each new race town
I like researching new places to visit while traveling to/from a race
I like the feeling just before the start and the feeling as you cross the finishline
I like to do races with my family wife, brother, daughter, grandsons
I like listening to the talk in the transition area before a race
I like meeting new people
I like putting on my race gear
I like holding cookouts at the house for all the runners, tri guys, Mtbers, roadies

Someone woke up perky this morning! I totally agree, I just wish I could keep that stuff in mind all the time (like when the alarm goes off at 0-dark:30 to prompt me to go get in the pool for another pre-work workout). If you ever make it out to Boise (we have a pretty good 70.3 in mid-June) drop me a line, we have plenty of good coffee shops and brew pubs.

Thanks. I will do!!

And this one time at band camp… Just kidding. I agree with all of your statements.

My favorite things are definitely:

Buying new equipment as I improve.
Being around the positive atmosphere and people at races and organized training sessions.
Setting a good example for my children, so that they will grow up to be active adults.
Watching the expression on people’s faces that I work with when they ask what I am doing this weekend, and I tell them!!!

Heck, I just like to drink beer afterwards. Tim

I like being challenged.
I like achieving something that I once looked at as unattainable.

I like this thread dennis. Thank you very much.

I like people who like threads like this.

I like all the hot girls who always seem to “chick” me halfway through the run…the view is usually good.

I love pretty much everything about triathlon except the ridiculous cost of gear. tri racing is really like nothing else, physically and mentally. I also like knowing that even if i have a bad race, my memories about races are always good.

Agree. My favorite thing is when the body (from the ears down at least) goes numb during the last set of speed workouts in the pool and on the track. Haven’t got to that point on the bike yet…but I’ll get there someday.

Allow me to get metaphysical and add one more:

Lying weightless in the water, in total silence, sun rising, waiting for the gun before my first IM was one of the greatest feelings ever.

Total peace mixed with equal amounts of “you are truly f…d”

As for much, much later that day, not bad either, but the last few minutes pre-start were unlike anything else.

I like “chicking” guys in the pool and on the bike (sometimes)
I like hearing people encourage each other - while trying desperately to beat each other
I like the accomplishment
I like the pain during and the joy afterward
I like the club and the camaraderie/competition heading to races together that the crazy bastards bring
I like watching others go nuts over new stuff
I like listening to people talk about how much they spend on things to do nothing but sit and play video games - and knowing that I spend less for my little self-powered machine to go further and see more and am a better person for it
I like the beer, pizza, burgers and whatnot that race-day brings
.

Thanks for this post! Great inspiration for the early season. I’m (almost) pumped for tomorrow morning’s workout!

x2, and my pace picks up a bit too!

I like standing ankle-deep in water, adjusting my goggles, and waiting for the madness about to ensue to get to the first bouy…

I like taping gels to the top tube
I like my legs
I like kicking everyone’s a$$ on the swim
I like chasing people down on the run
I like running in my swimsuit
I like getting up in the morning and getting lots of running in before the rest of campus is even UP
I like bodymarks
I like chocolate Gu (it’s like brownie batter)
I like writing race reports after
I like the alone time
I like the people I’ve met through tri
I like ST
I like feeling shelled from training
I like going to bed early
I like being tired
I like being sore
I like my shoulders
I like running in just a sports bra and shorts
I like all the race numbers decorating my wall
I like how everyone else thinks it’s crazy
.

I like all the hot girls who always seem to “chick” me halfway through the run…the view is usually good.

I feel like you should be a little more competitive about getting chicked
.

Heck, I just like to drink beer afterwards. Tim

My favorite part is drinking beer the night before with the boys/girls and talking smack…

I’m with ya tigerchik except for wearing the girlie stuff. You really appreciate it more getting back into after a breakup.

I love the “Oh I just PR’d on my swim… wait… must go bike…”
I love the night after when I sleep for 10 hours through sirens and everything else.
I love results, because even if I win my age group, I know someone is faster than me.
I love finishing and the people calling your name out.
I like forgetting the ONE thing at home. That way, if I lose I have a reason.
I like seeing all the bikes. I just want to touch them O_o
I like the people who do triathlon to achieve something, because they always surprise themselves.
I like being one of the youngest people doing triathlons (17 years old) because…
I like it when the older people see me speeding by saying “Dang kids!”
I like the guys that talk during the run, because I can’t take running serious.
I seeing the lead car infront of me, even if it’s only for the first mile.
Finally, I like realizing that in 2-3 years I’ll be doing some 70.3’s. It’s a goal.

There you go
