We will be going to Egg Harbor WI for spring break this year and I am wondering what types of things you would recommend for kids (4-7) to do in Egg Habor WI area? We will probably spend at least one day in Green Bay. Any recommendations are appreciated.
Are the kids being punished?
Are the kids being punished?
LOL!!!
I am going to start threatening my kids with that.
Green Bay has a nice little museum downtown. If the kids like football there is the Packers Hall of Fame. If it is nice out, visit the Wildlife Refuge.
Door County area the main activities are outdoor. The time of year you are talking about is a little late for winter and way too early for the summer stuff. But it depends on the weather - Peninsula State Park is very pretty and great for hiking or a picnic. Drive over to the Lake Michigan side and visit Whitefish Dunes State park. The towns all have tourist shopping, but half the shops will be closed until Memorial Day.
There is a very nice YMCA in Ephriam if the weather turns on you.
They live with me so of course they are being punished.
My grandparents were from Green Bay. Whenever we went there as kids, we went to a place called “Bay Beach”. It was some sort of amusement park with rides, etc. I haven’t been there in nearly 30 years but it appears it still exists:

We picked the wrong time of the year to go as most of the activities are aimed at the summer. We needed a place within a one day drive as we also have an infant who does not like to travel. Thanks for the recommendation as it looks cool but is only open in the summer.
Please keep the ideas coming.
kids ages 4 & 7 like to be with their parent(s) - - so you got that going for you.
I would include Sturgeon Bay as a place to visit. SB has an eclectic artistic side - and fine places to eat down town that my kids still like. It has museums and some tours, etc. http://www.sturgeonbay.net/sbtourism/default.asp
Egg Harbor - a fun place to eat right on the corner as Highway heads North (“Captains Corner” I think) - - again, kid friendly menu Right across the street is an ice cream, candy and fudge shop.
Up just north of Fish Creek there’s a large fruit and vegetable market - mustard, jams, and tons of free samples - - again, fudge and all sorts of things kids like. There’s also a store of nothing but Cat Stuff (Kitty Korner Likely closed at that time)
In fact, lots of this stuff might be closed - but there is a strong cross country ski business up there so check out Fish Creek.
If your kids are well behaved (don’t go running near cliffs and etc.) take them to Cave Point Park on the Lake Michigan coast of the county - - one of the prettiest places in the whole USA.
It will be likely be windy - very windy, so dress for winter.
Enjoy
Here are some suggestions for Green Bay:
- Children’s Museum is pretty cool.
- Wildlife Santuary. I still love going there, buying a bucket of corn, and feeding the ducks. Really nice pathways as well. Great year-round, not just summer.
- Nevill Public Museum. Pretty good place.

- Tundra Lodge Resort Waterpark. Indoor water park.
Well, if you are within a days drive of Door County, chances are you are a days drive from Wisconsin Dells - unless you are coming from the U.P., in which case any glimpse of civilization would be entertaining
. The Dells is kid heaven any time of year.

We were just there yesterday morning!!! Stayed at Best Western in SB for the weekend. I have 3 kids ages 9,7 and 4 and the area leading up to the edge of the cliff is like a skating rink with a thin layer of ice. I kept trying to keep them 10 feet back and my 4 year old kept wanting to run up and throw ice chunks “into the hole”. After aging about 10 years in 10 minutes we left.
To the OP lots of good info so far. Tough to say without specific time frame and weather dependent. If still snow/cold there is a great sledding hill in Peninsula State Park (north end). Also consider a day trip to Washington Island via the ferry (it’s open year round). Take your car on ferry through as lots of walking on the island.

The Dells is White Trash Capital of the Midwest! Over Spring Break it might even be worse. Will make for GREAT people watching
+1
Tundra Lodge Resort Waterpark. Indoor water park.
edit: Oddly, the link to their page is not working right now, but it’s still a great place.
If you take the ferry to Washington Island are there hiking trails, parks, what kinds of things are there to do?
Thanks
Any restaurants?
hi
washingtonisland.com is a good place to start under FAQ’s they list a number of parks.
I would only recommend Washington Island if you will be there a full week and are looking for a day to kill. Yes there are hiking trails and shopping. Another short boat ride to Rock Cut State Park (a seperate small island) has a working lighthouse for tour. I think there are 1-2 others in DC.
Just for the ferry ride alone it is worth a day killer for kids that age. I have only eaten at the pub/restaurant right on shore just off the ferry. You can also rent bikes to get around if weather is good. There are a few good restaurants just where the ferry leaves from (think this is Gill’s Rock)
Best one is about 2 blocks north of ferry launch; basically it is the last building at the tip of the thumb so just drive past the ferry launch area until the road ends.
If you want to hike and the weather permits I would recommend in order:
- Whitefish Dunes state park; 2-3 miles of hiking on shore or in the woods adjacent. Beautiful beach and rock outcroppings with fossils in them etc etc. Cave Point county park discussed above is right next door.
- Peninsula State Park. Very big drive around and lots of different places to park and hike around.
Eats for kids = Wilson’s in Ephraim and Door County Ice Cream Factory in Sister Bay. Bayside Tavern in Fish Creek is also good. Then take the 30 minute ride south to Sturgeon Bay for your normal “chain” type fare.
PS Best kept secret for food in Door County (adult or kid) is Sister Bay Bowling Alley…seriously
Honestly I did take the ferry to Washington Island once and then wondered why I bothered. I can’t reccomend it.
Peninsula State Park has much better hiking, marked trails, a tower, and it is very pretty. Big park. It is very nice for family-style bicycling, has a packed-limestone path that follows the shore for 5 or 6 miles, and some little-used roads interior to the park. A large bluff winds through the park, adds some hills. The park has a nature center that is worth visiting - and a golf course.

Honestly I don’t disagree; but a week in DC in the spring is a LONG time…
