They're Back!

My grocery store has brought back the big 3 pound bags of cocca crispies!
My mornings are now filled w/sunshine vs cheerios or some crappy nuts that don’t taste like grapes at all.
it’s been a great 4 bowl morning.

While I share your enthusiasm for the bike-box-sized Lucky Charms containers now available, I would encourage you to try out Mueslix, which, while lacking in the same visceral sensation of glee provided by Lucky Charms or Cocoa Crispies, will provide you with energy for more than just a dawn-to-dusk date with your PS2.

BTW, what kind of ale should I brew this fall? I’m thinking I’ll do another variant on the choco porter, but am entertaining suggestions for others. No pilseners, I don’t have the patience for that.

Maybe a Grape Nuts Ale? Or a Lucky Charms-weizen?

Guest: “This wheat beer has a really interesting flavor and texture.”

Me: “Yeah, that’s the marshmallows.”

I brewed a cream stout last year that was excellent.

Trivia question: who knows what is the favorite breakfast cereal of Calvin (of Calvin & Hobbes)?

I’m a big fan of porters & stouts, you can never go wrong w/ any porter or a sweet stout similair to mackenson’s.
I like the cereal b/c it’s like magic, turns the milk to chocolate milk.
yeah,…it’s the little things that make me excited.
How was life w/ the convention? My brother in law needed an extra hour just to get to work since he takes the T.

I’m a big fan of stouts, but I tend toward favoring the porter style for brewing, because it is easier to get a decent porter than a stout. My last porter was very stout-like, because I threw so much junk into it that it was ridiculous, but still had the flavor/bitterness of a porter.

I’ve been thinking about trying to do an Imperial Stout(I won’t bother brewing an Irish stout because there’s little room for variation) or maybe a Theakston-style ale like Old Peculiar, and play around with adding treacle, which is supposed to add a nice sweetness to it.

My favorite styles overall are IPA’s (I’m a hophead!) and porters. A nice chocolate porter or a smoky, coally porter will do just fine in the winter.

All time faves: Harpoon IPA, Otter Creek Stovepipe Porter, and Bar Harbor Brewing Co’s Cadillac Mountain Stout. Of course, I’d never turn down a pint of vitamin G.

Sorry Bri, I think I hijacked your thread.

Ooh, so close.

Well, most companies in town flat out told their employees not to come in, so the city was a ghost town. As to why there were no protesters(unlike the RNC) it was basically martial law around here. I was out the first two days because I was in Lake Placid, but the remainder of the week there was hardly anyone on the train, the streets were barren, and the shops were empty. It was not a happy week for Beantown business.

Your brother-in-law must live north of the city and come into North Station. They shut down that entire hub for the week. I live west of the city and come into South Station, which was largely unaffected because it is 1.5 miles away(as opposed to North Station, which the Fleet Center is directly on top of.)

He is on the red line if I remember correctly going to harvard.

There was also another one - I recall one where he says, “I refuse to eat a cereal which doesn’t turn my milk purple”. Good times

“Crunchy on the outsided, chewy on the inside, with no vitamins or minerals to get in the way of that rich fudgey taste.”

At least that’s how I remember it.

I’ll try and one up your Mueslix. Germandeli.com sells Dr Oetker choclate Mueslix. Kind of the same with a ton of swiss chocolate bits in it, now that’s the way to do muesli.

I’m willing to try chocolate mueslix. Beats breaking a hershey bar up into my cereal.

Can you hook me up with the Chocolate Porter recipe? My friend and I just got through with our second batch of the year and will need something tasty-dark for the fall and cold winter here in NM

I’m a big cereal guy myself. I’ve been known to have 15 boxes of cereal in my pantry at one time.

Cocoa Pebbles beat the mess out of Cocoa Krispies, though.

3lb bags? Where do you find those?

Sure. If you brew it now, it will start to taste real nice around Dec-Jan. the last batch I brewed last September is still improving, which is too bad, because there’s not much left.

PM me and I’ll dig it out tonight. I have to say, though, I have made this recipe twice, once with 1lb maltodextrin and once without, and it came out better with the maltodextrin.

My six year old daughter loves that stuff. Last time I poured her a bowl, I was stunned to see how much chocolate there was in it. it was like a bowl of Nestle’s chocolate morsels with bits of grain contaminating it. No more.

A tri-friend of mine once said “if you can eat it out of the box, it isn’t cereal”.

How about an Oatmeal Stout, a la Samuel Smith’s?

Good idea! I’ll make Maple and Brown Sugar Stout. ;p

Seriously, Not a big fan of oatmeal stouts. I don’t like the bitterness of the oats, although the milkiness is interesting. They sure are chewy, though.
