I came home for a family birthday this past weekend in the Chicago burbs, I am still itching from these damn things.
You were not going fast enough, the mites can’t travel faster than 28mph. Yeah they suck though, are they ever going to die?
I swear I must taste like Chicken Broth to them, or something. I’m devoured.
I look just like a kid with the chicken pox…dried calamine lotion covering 70% of my body.
Friday, August 10, I went for a ride on the North Branch Trail (which is torn up and closed, I learned – but I tried to ride it anyway).
Over the next couple of days, I developed 6 distinct rash areas… I thought they were spider bites (since it is totally spider season in Chicago).
But I now think they were mites that got me. I wouldn’t have known with out this thread.
Thanks for the info.
I run almost every morning through subdivisions and parks with tons of trees and I have been bitten only once.
My understanding is that they fall from trees and go down your shirt.
Did you happen to ride with the front of the jersey partially unzipped?
Most of my running is in technical Ts and by 5-10 minutes into the run the neckline is plastered against my body so the little buggers probably have a more difficult time “dropping in”.
they’re testy little buggers.
there are a couple areas of Michigan where they have shown up too…like my back yard.
my luck to have a couple big oaks.
the bite marks are slow to go away…but they do.
"Did you happen to ride with the front of the jersey partially unzipped? "
It was hot and humid… I had my jersey partially unzipped the whole time.
From some of these news stories, I am lucky I only got 6 bites – 10 days later, they are mostly healed.
Some of them have left pitted marks on the skin. on a couple, the skin turned colors like a bruise does as it healed.
I am flattered to be part of this newsworthy outbreak.
Jersey was unzipped- it was hot and humid.
The itchy torture is finally gone, but the welts remain.
If a mosquito bite is 3 on the itchy scale, these things were a 15.
I’ve been gobbing Sunblock on the appendages to trap the little bastards, then I quickly shower after the session.
