Okay guys, I’ve got a situation…I want to get a PT SL wheel purely for racing duathlons and time trials. Has to be clincher. Has to be damn fast. Don’t want to get too crazy with the cost. Any ideas?

Zipps 808
With a wheel cover.
get a zipp built by the custom wheelbuilder guys with a cover for racing. it’s slightly heavier (wheel cover), but will be the fastest wheel out there (disc > anything else).
barring that…get a 90 mm hed or zipp, basically the deepest rim you can find.

Wouldn’t a 32-spoke open pro with a wheel cover go just as fast?
If you’re going to put a wheel cover on an 808 why not get a cheaper, lighter rear wheel and cover it up–if cost is even a little bit of a consideration?
I was thinking along the same lines - why get an expensive, relatively fragile 808 when I could get a cheap open pro and go just as fast? That is, if the wheel cover is actually going to be faster than the inevitably lighter deep-dish options that have already been mentioned.

Because Jens does it ![]()
You did ask for the ultimate and not the cheapest.
Is it any more ultimate or is it just more expensive. Really, I’m wondering.
The advantage, I think, is that you can take the cover off if conditions aren’t suitable for a disk and still have a race wheel. So in that sense, it’s more ultimate.
If the cover never comes off, it’s just more expensive.
