Fantastic stuff!
Politics at its finest.
This was classic, goes back to perception versus reality. Don’t pay attention to what I do, just feel proud by what I say…Change you can “believe in”
Where are MattinSF, YaHey, and OAD in this thread.
They ignore this. That is what you do when you worship a party. You ignore the bad. It’s like the Republicans voting in the same people year after year even thought the Republicans are just democrats with a different name. I used to think it was sad but now I just find it funny.
Bump to see if we get any discussion on this topic. I really want to see what people think on this.
Yes, it is bad. Specially so close after announcing it. I am pro Obama. No argument there. That doesn’t mean I will agree with every single decision he is going to make during the next 4 years. Nor have I disagreed with all Bush’s decisions.

We are in agreement. People that put faith in a party are only fooling themselves. Look for the actions of the individuals and don’t let them off the hook. It’s BS to say you are for something but then use an exception to weasel out of a commitment.
Obama may need to call upon the husband of his new Secretary of State to defend him against critics on this one. During his campaign, he stated: “If you are a lobbyist entering my administration, you will not be able to work on matters you lobbied on, or in the agencies you lobbied during the previous two years.” The article describes Lynn as a “former lobbyist.” So the question becomes: **Is **a former lobbyist still a lobbyist? If not, then the if-clause in the statement is false, so the rest of the statement does not apply. But that all depends on what the meaning of “is” is.
Of course, even if O gets away with this defense, the whole affair still leaves an embarrassing stain on the blue dress of his administration.

No surprise here, but it is CHANGE!
I’m an unabashed Obama fan and I can agree that this is a rookie political mistake. Unfortunately, sometimes ideology conflicts with practicality.
Btw, this does little to nothing to diminish my support for the President. We all knew he wasn’t perfect, despite how republicans tried to frame our excitement for his leadership.
Now we have him on TV telling the Muslim world we aren’t the enemy. Uhhh…yes we are. For militant Islam we are the enemy and we along with most Western countries have and will be for a loooooong time. His effort on TV is meaningless unless he proves the Muslim world otherwise.

Ha! So he should be telling the Arab/Muslim TV audience as a whole that we are their enemy and they are ours? Interesting approach…
I’m pretty sure the “Muslim world” does not always equal militant Islam.
Ha! So with friends like that who needs scumbag enemies who are hell bent and heaven motivated on blowing inncocent civillians into blood and guts? We should televise something that they don’t already know … and that is we are all just a big ole circle of bestest of friends with them as our closest bum buddies. Interesting approach …
Allah Akhbar!!!
you’re correct. Who was he speaking to? The Muslim World or Militant Islam. As far as I know the Muslim World acknowledges or at least knows we are militant Islams enemy. I assume they’ve read the same Quran that I have.
As soon as we set foot in Iraq we became an enemy. OUr friendship with Israel makes us an enemy.
Whose fucking enemy are we then? Why are we at war? Are we fighting in Iraq against Muslim extremists over Wii privileges?!
Listen I voted for the guy. The idea of having Mccain as our CINC absolutely scared the shit out of me. However, I didn’t vote Obama because of his “hope” and “change” routine, why because “hope” and “change” are not a policy but instead a rally mantra. If his statement “we are not your enemy” is an effort of “hope” and “change” well then he’ll have to do more than that.

I think the worst thing here is that not hiring lobbyists was one of the central themes of his campaign. This goes to show that all politicians whether dem or rep will do what they want even it means going back on what they said to get elected. This is what I expected out of Obama because I have seen Jones, Blago, and Daley do this for years in Illinois.
If you’re going to lift exactly what I said then go ahead and use the quote option from the menu.
OK…a really naive question from someone not born and raised in the US…can lobbyist be a good thing? or, can there be good lobbyists? examples? (preferably without a partisan agenda)
Funny how it’s not Miltant Christians, Militant Jews, Militant Budhists, Militant Hindus, Militant Mormons, Militant Stamp Collecter’s Union or Militant Bird Watchers’ Inc or even Militant KKK that are perpetuating all this on going terrorist attacks around the world. Granted the “Muslim World” does not ***always ***equal militant Islam. Unfortunately though Islam and terrorism are a whole lot more than just a happy coincidence.
