ok. I’ll make this my last rant for a while… you’re welcome.
I’ve heard the local talk radio repeat over and over that the terrorists want Kerry to win because Bush is “taking the fight to them”.
Let’s put all politics aside, and assume that Kerry’s plan is basically Bush’s plan, which as far as I can tell it is, except he says he’d do it “better” or “faster”. Let’s not make this about Bush or Kerry.
my point is this:
THE TERRORISTS ARE NOT AFRAID. THEY WANT A WAR.
If you go over there, that just makes it easier on them to kill americans. – NOT that we shouldn’t be there.
People that willingly strap a bomb on themselves and blow themselves up are NOT cowards. – NOT that they aren’t crazy, but they sure as hell aren’t afraid.
The terrorists want an all out war. They are happy we’re in Iraq, and would be even happier if we attacked other countries. – NOT that we should or shouldn’t attack other countries – or that attacking Iraq was right or wrong.
The terrorists WANT us to extend ourselves. They really want us to OVER-extend ourselves. – I don’t know if they’ve studied 4gw, but it sure as hell seems like it.
Now granted, my only formal study of terrorism and international affairs was from 18 hours of courses I had a long time ago, and the various receptions I get from my tin foil hat… But I have a feeling terrorists don’t give a shit who we have in office, they’re going to fight til the last dog dies.
I would’ve thought this was blatantly obvious. But I guess it isn’t. If there’s any of you that think the terrorists don’t want to fight us in the middle east, please explain.
I totally agree. The big question is, will the current U.S. strategy work in the long run? I’m a skeptic. No, I don’t have better ideas, but would like to hear some. -TB
Well, I agree with most of what you say. To answer your question, an American success in Iraq would be a dagger in the heart of the terrorists. If Iraq is a successful democracy in the intermediate future, the rest of the Middle East will follow. It may take 50 to 100 years, but it will happen.
There is no breeding ground for terrorists in a functioning democracy. People with hope in the future and freedom don’t put on suicide belts.
I think I agree…???.. But then again maybe not, I guess we’ll see.
Maybe they wanted war, maybe they didn’t I am not quite sure. The second they flew the first plane into the the WTC they got war, whether they wanted it or not. One one hand may they were try to provoke us, and on the other maybe they thought after 8 years of minimal response from the US they thought we would not respond.
"If you go over there, that just makes it easier on them to kill americans. – NOT that we shouldn’t be there. "
I assume you’re talking about our military being there. If that is what you mean, and what they wanted then they are really stupid. Invite the badest, meanest, best armed SOB’s in the world into your back yard and ask them for a fight- seems pretty dumb to me. I guess the bottom line is there will be a war, and I’d rather it be in their backyard than mine. And I’d rather we were fighting them with our military than with our women and children.
“I’ve heard the local talk radio repeat over and over that the terrorists want Kerry to win”
If Bin Laden was eligible to vote he’d definately cast his ballot for Bush. It’s no small co-incidence that he released this video at this time and these radio host jerk-offs are playing into his hands.
Kerry would make Iraq a more international issue, even bringing in NATO which would mean my own country Canada for example will be forced to go in as a NATO member even though public opinion would prefer us to stay out. Bring in the rest of the world and Bin Laden can’t isolate a single “devil” enemy. He knows that and that’s why he wants Bush to win - to isolate the US from the rest of the world in the eyes of the Arab world.
"THE TERRORISTS ARE NOT AFRAID. THEY WANT A WAR. "
AMEN! I am so sick of people tinking that the terrorist give a damn about who is in charge. To them we are all animals and enemies of god. they welcome a chance to attack who ever wins.
Bin Laden doesn’t give two craps about who we elect. If we elect Sen KErry, he will be able that he and al Qaeda have changed our govt, and that his goals will be more easy to easy to achieve. If we reslect PRes Bush, he’s got a ready made enemy of the Islamic world, and he will be able to say that this is proof of our evil intent since we reelected the guy who sent troops to Iraq. I’m not cinvinved that he can’t spin either win in his favor, and I don’t think he necessrily want Sen Kerry to win.
The Americans weak stomach combined with the fact that Islamic terror is being done for reasons that are purely irrational makes the fight tough. I do think we need Iraq because we need a forward location and an Allie in the fight. You said it yourself we can’t prevent an attack on our shores but taking the fight to them is our only option.
What will be the impact of today’s Bin Laden video message for the US elections? I think it is in favorite for Bush and not for Kerry, and Bin Laden knows it. And he knows very well why he published it today and not next saturday.
Remains the question “why?”
Because terrorists need Bush’s policy of “American way of life for everyone, if necessary we oblige them with arms”. At least, that is how the actual US policy is seen in the rest of the world. Terrorists may fear that Kerry changes this policy up to a “Everyone that respects the rights of others may be happy by his own way of life”, or even change the public mind of the rest of the world in this sense. This opinion would take away the support of Bin Laden and El Quaida, and therefore would be quiet dangerous for them.
On the other hand, I am quiet sure that without the war against terrorism, Bush had nearly no chance to be re-elected.
Therefore, I conclude that Bin Laden needs Bush, and Bush needs Bin Laden.
“Therefore, I conclude that Bin Laden needs Bush, and Bush needs Bin Laden.”
Bin Laden attacked and killed us before Bush. Bush would have a world with not much going on if 9/11 wouldn’t have happened and would have been relected just because nothing bad happened.
In the past, Bin Laden attacked the US, with some support in the islamic world, but not too important. After 9/11, there was no more any support for Bin Laden, even the US government arrived easyly in creating a world-wide anti-terror coalition. Today, there is again a big support for Bin Laden and El QUaida, thanks to Bush’s policy. That’s why Bin Laden is interested in his relection.
"In the past, Bin Laden attacked the US, with some support in the islamic world, but not too important. "
Can you support this theory with any facts? Funny now that more of the Islamic world is behind OBL we have not had a major attack but when he was marginal and unimportant OBL busted us in the nose several times.
From the New York Post: The WHOLE OBL Tape That Didn’t Get Aired.
October 31, 2004 – Osama bin Laden doesn’t seem nearly so cocky in the unedited version of a videotape aired on al-Jazeera, complaining that the manhunt against him has hampered al Qaeda. AFP/Getty ImagesBin Laden the impotent / Opinion: Page 27 Osama bin Laden’s newest tape may have thrust him to the forefront of the presidential election, but what was not seen was the cave-dwelling terror lord talking about the setbacks al Qaeda has faced in recent months.
Officials said that in the 18-minute long tape — of which only six minutes were aired on the al-Jazeera Arab television network in the Middle East on Friday — bin Laden bemoans the recent democratic elections in Afghanistan and the lack of violence involved with it.
On the tape, bin Laden also says his terror organization has been hurt by the U.S. military’s unrelenting manhunt for him and his cohorts on the Afghan-Pakistani border.
We’re kicking this guy and al-Qaeda’s collective ass all over the world. Now, why would we want to go and change horses in midstream when we’ve got him on the run? Especially since there hasn’t been a single terrorist attack on our soil since 9/11? Is it smart to give him and Zawahiri and the rest of 'em a 3 to 4 month rest period, while a newly-elected President Kerry gets his government up and running?
Does he think we’ll react like Spain and the Phillipines, and cut and run? Or does he think that we’ll hang tough, like Japan and Australia and Italy? November 2nd will be just as revealing about our national character to him and his organization as it will be to those of us in the United States.
Get out and vote on the 2nd. For whomever. Just go vote.
