That’s right, #500 is this Sunday night. While the Simpsons used to be regular viewing for me, lately they have slipped and I watch half-heartedly. Their recent struggles notwithstanding, this show is clearly one of the handful of best shows ever to grace our small screen. So, name your favorite episode(s). I’ll get us started.
Last Exit To Springfield - Homer becomes head of the union at work.
Mr. Plow - Call Mr. Plow, that’s my name, that name again is Mr. Plow…
Bart the Daredevil - Bart, wounds heal, chicks dig scars, and the U S of A has the best doctor to daredevil ratio in the world!
Homer’s Phobia - I like my beer cold, my TV loud, and my homosexuals fa-laaaaaaaaammmming.
Cape Feare - Sideshow Bob and HMS Pinafore, sheer brillance
Homer the Great - Homer is the savior of the Stonecutters secret society
You Only Move Twice - Homer kills James Bond, unintentionally of course…
A Fish Called Selma - Troy McCLure’s shining moment (RIP Phil Hartmann)
Two Cars in Every Garage and 3 Eyes on Every Fish - Mr. Burns runs for govenor
Sideshow Bob Roberts - SSB runs for mayor, Quimby looks like a sweaty devil, and the funniest damn scrolling FOX news ticker ever.
I am biased.
The one where they are on spring break, use the 1982 AAA Travel Guide and end up in KNOXVILLE! Knoxville! KNOXVILLE!
They run a car into our illustrious Sunsphere and knock it over.
Can’t help it if they come to my town.
I’m like you where I used to watch religiously but not so much anymore. Agree with many of the choices, my top 10 in no particular order would be:
Homer’s lawsuit against the all-you-can-eat seafood restaurant.
Homer’s crusade to keep the Isotopes from moving to Alberquerque (“Hello Homer, I am the ghost of Cesar Chavez”…“Why do you look like Cesar Romero?”…“Because you don’t know who Cesar Chavez is”)
Marge’s Thelma & Louise adventure with Ruth Powers
Cape Fear (best of the Sideshow Bob episodes)
Stonecutters
Homer’s Phobia
Marge becoming a roided-up female bodybuilder
Homer becoming the union head (“Dental Plan!” “Lisa needs braces!”)
Bart the Genius: Bart is mistakenly placed in a school for “gifted children” after he cheats on an intelligence test at school.
Maybe it’s the crappy drawings of the first season or the joy I had seeing what was once a 30 second clip on the Tracy Ullman show get its own 30 minute slot, but this episode is one of the best.
