The sign you don't want to see before a triathlon

I had to take a picture of this sign. Who couldn’t be excited about swimming the next day!

oh yeah.

a higher risk of infection always gets me excited to jump in.

That is a stupid, fear mongering sign. The risk could have doubled, but had been only 1 in a million to start with. That would be 2 in a million - still a doubling but hardly worth worry. With the amount of info on the sign, only one thing is clear, Austin is trying to indemnify itself, and not looking out for you. I’m not saying there is no worry, only that that is a really lousy sign.

Time to sign up for the du.

I did the race yesterday and I have a scratchy throat today.

Otherwise, I think the Austin Triathlon is great! Much better than CapTex.

I agree, it was an awesome race and Jack and Adam did a great job. I am doing the race again for sure next year

Also, my throat is sore this morning too. No rashes or anything yet

Better than this one:

Another vote for a great race… No signs of sickness, sore throat, etc. Felt a bit toasty in the water with a full wetsuit, though.

Anybody doing the 1/2 in October?

Hmmm. Something like that might keep me from swimming…

No worries, it seems like the sign has just become a permanent fixture…They actually test the water before the race:)
It was a great race, I thought…I was one of the bike course coordinators, and you probably saw me as you headed over the first street bridge onto Cesar Chavez, telling you that “MERGING BIKES AHEAD”…then, headed over to help you back onto 1st Street bridge after finishing your third lap…

Lucky with the weather, the rain held off until 4:30 or so. Great weather for racing yesterday…

Come on out for Longhorn! Heading out on the bike course right now, to map out a few more things:)

Does it burn when you pee?

Sweet! Water so chunky you need a fork!

If there are any other changes to the course, let me know. I plan on doing another scouting report before the Longhorn. This bike course was much better than the CapTex. There were a couple of issues that I had. Mainly, on the south part of Congress, the two southbound lanes of Congress, the center turn lane, and the northbound turn lane were marked off for the race. This is 4 lanes and that’s good, but there weren’t any cones dividing the lanes. It seemed like there were 2 lanes uphill, 1 lane downhill, with 1 lane for extra space. Well, I used this extra space to pass people downhill and there were also a few people trying to use this lane to also pass people going uphill. A little bit of confusion going on here and it wouldn’t have been pretty with a cyclist going downhill at 35mph hitting another cyclist going uphill at 16mph.

I’ll pass it on to Jack and Adam’s…I basically flew in Sat afternoon, helped them with setup on Sunday, and helped place the volunteers at 1st/Cesar Chavez in and outbound (where the crazy 2nd/3rd loop/finish lanes were) and volunteers at Congress/Cesar Chavez. Moved around some cones… So, I’m not really the one to ask about the bike course…I saw it for the first time Sunday afternoon:) They just knew that I wouldn’t disappear if I was hungry, and that I have some understanding of triathlon and race directing:) I know they worked really hard at getting something approved that everyone would like…It’s a tall task in downtown Austin…

That said, I have a few suggestions that I’ve passed onto them, and I’m sure the event will be even better next year…They have a passion for what they do, and only want to make the event better…I’m sure they’d welcome any and all feedback…I thought for a first year event it was awesome…

drop 'em a line at drew@jackandadams.com,events@jackandadams.com,jack@jackandadams.com. They’d love to hear from you!

I’ll pass it on to them since I’m there about once a week for the core classes. I agree that it was a great inaugural event. I’m critical of a lot of races, even yours, but I’m not bashing them. I’m just giving my advice for making a near perfect event perfect.

I thought the race was ok, not great, just ok. I thought the swim was longer than 1500 meters.

Aren’t you the guy who refuses to use a suit spinner and calls everyone else crazy for using them?

A few years ago, a buddy and I did a race in FLorida. I am chatting with him, and after a few moments realize I have been the only one talking. I look over at him, a little pale and nervous. I look where he is looking and see a sign. " BEWARE OF ALLIGATORS " I think that was my fastest swim time ever.

Keep an eye out for any signs you are starting to grow a third arm. Don’t worry, it might come in “handy” on the swim.

Had one similar at Lake Macatawa this year (Holland, MI). Ecoli levels unsafe, beach closed etc…
