The season of injuries

So, just wanted to vent a little.

I went into this season with a good base. I worked hard all winter to get ready for my race schedule that included three 70.3 races and one Ironman (Louisville). I set a PR for a half marathon and I was hopeful for the season. Maybe qualifying for Clearwater or maybe even Hawaii… Maybe.

Then the injuries came rolling in. First an ankle injury (result of trail running in bad weather). Then a suspected stress issue in my left foot. Then a left calf injury and now, most recently an issue with my right calf (Sloeus).

I had some good races. A hand full of age group wins but I also had some bad races. A DNF, having to walk during another 70.3. Needless to say no 70.3 and no Hawaii.

I am just a few weeks out from Louisville and I am not sure how that race will go. I am not sure if I will be able to run or not. This may be a long day.

There were a few times that I was just ready to give up this season, sell my bike and take up darts or bowling… yea, thats it. I guess this is the way that it goes. There are years that you have to deal with this and take what you get.

Vent away! I’m right with you. This was supposed to be my big year. I have IMAZ in November. Started out the year with 2 months off for ITBS (had to miss out on the RnR marathon), got it together for a good spring tri season, only to roll my ankle and damage a tendon in June. Another 2 months off, getting slowly back to runing, now my knees are sore (old injuries). It’s difficult to train for IM and recoveer for injuries atteh same time, I realize this is not the best way to go about things. I’'ll be having a nice off season this winter to rehab!

I’m with both of you. I had calf/shin issues on and off all winter in the left leg. Finally got over that and somehow have a stress fracture that is about healed in the right shin. I have IMWI in 6 weeks and haven’t ran in 5 weeks…one good thing is that the legs are fresh for my bike rides. Needless to say my marathon goals for IMWI have gotten a little more conservative…

I hear ya’ brutha’…

I get my MRI on my Achilles next Wednesday… I “should be” racing Embrunman next weekend… But alas, the injury Gods had other plans.

Ultimately, we’ll ALL recover, make changes to our training, and enjoy the sport because we’ll understand how fleeting fleet feet can be:-)

Got me last year (torn soleus). Just take it easy this winter and heal up. You’ll be back!

With IMC this, I’ve stayed off the trails or anything that resembled a trail, first season without other issues as well, I’ll say it one more time… thankyou Bikram Hot Yoga, saved my ass, really.
