OK since you said all suggestions are welcome… how about adding a rear hitch and using a hitch rack? I bought a used Mazda Miata over the summer (no roof rack with a convertible!) and and added a rear hitch to it, and I have to say I now much prefer the hitch rack to the roof rack. You could start with something like this:
You are in luck as it says the hitch is a 20 min install on your car with no drilling required. Then you can get this:
Those racks are great because they can carry any kind of frame bike, they touch nothing but the tires, you can load/unload in seconds, and it meets my wife’s approval, as she can load the bikes onto the hitch but cannot lift them onto the roof. And the best part is, nothing touches the finish of that new car of yours.
