The Millau Viaduct is part of the new E11 expressway connecting Paris** and Barcelona and features the highest bridge piers ever ****constructed. The tallest is 240 meters (787 feet) high and the ****overall height is an impressive 336 meters (1102 feet), making this **** the highest bridge in the world. It is taller than the Eiffel Tower. ****Intriguingly, the Millau Viaduct is not straight. A straight road could induce ****a sensation of floating for drivers, which a slight curve remedies. The curve ****is 20km in range. Moreover, the road has a slight incline of 3% to improve ****the visibility and reassure the driver. ****It is an amazing engineering feat! **
A 3% incline? In which direction? I don’t know much but I know a thing or two about hills and one thing is if you have a 3% incline going one way, you’ll have a 3% decline the other way. Or did someone actually find a way to make a path go uphill both ways? And does it snow on this bridge? Do they make people stop and take the tires off of their cars before they cross the bridge? If so, my dad would love this bridge.
there is a documentary about when this was built, I think it was a discovery thing, its amazing, the whole thing was built using GPS pin pointing, the spans were pushed out from each side, it is incredible…love it, British Architecture :), French Construction
