Obama is right, what is it that his opposition suddenly seems to know since they are the ones that got us into this cluster mess. Pork? The republican party talking against pork? The republicans doubled our national deficit and NOW they are against pork?
The current stimulus package, just like the Bush administration financial sector bailout wasn’t a cure all - in fact, it was merely a bonus and company party junket allowance for members of the republican club.
And Rush, has anyone heard Rush on the radio lately? The republicans only have themselves to thank for Rush. Continue to give him $80M a year, or whatever his package is. His entire basis is to stir up the simple minded. He is the leader of the Right!
The stimulus package has infrastructure spending, education spending, tax cuts, and more. Let’s get this passed so we can move on.

So you are saying that the Dems had no part in this mess at all and it was 100% the Reps fault?
There is SO much blame to go around on ALL sides. From the individuals who bought more than they could afford, to Barney Frank, to George Bush and the Repulicans, to Clinton, to the community reinvestment act, to the terrorists who said they were going to cripple the economies of the world (anyone think about those guys?) etc etc etc.
It is amazing how quickly people exercise the look back option.
you lost your credibility after you first 3 words of the OP. Obama is right… But just to play with you for a moment, Big O is the POTUS, he has Congress on his side, the national media kissing hiss ass, and the US population convinced we are in the great depression so then OK Big O now fix it… he can’t eve get douchebags Frank and Pelosi to shut up never mind get the repubs on his side.
As an outside observer of American politics, it is rather amazing to listen to Republicans now rant about spending considering what went down in Dubya’s term.
not sure how it is in Canada, but here in the states, Congress does the lions share of the budget/spending work. To blame a president for excessive spending is somewhat naive.
I agree that most Republicans have lost credibility based on past deficit spending (Ron Paul being one example of exception). But the Democrats participated as well, and it would be hard to imagine that a McCain-administration stimulus package would be much different that what we have now (i.e., at the end of the day, democrats and republicans are not that far apart).
Obama is right, HE did inherit the mess. He sure wasn’t apart of anything in the past because he’s been running for President since before he became a US Senator. He has never authored a single piece of legislation in his life. He is still a rookie. So yeah, I give him a pass, kind of. I am not sure the buck will stop with him after last nights speech, press conference.
However, to suggest that the ALL of congress is not to blame is just plain false. As a life long republican I have been pissed off for years at my own party for their spending and I believe they lost an incredible opportunity. BUT, they have had a lot of help on this spending.
So now, we are going to spend even more, BRILLIANT.
Every time you open your mouth you remind us how ignorant you are. To say that because you think the republicans spent way too much money and overspent that that makes it all the sudden right for the left to do it shows a total lack of judgement and knowledge. You can’t have it both ways. It’s bad for one but okay for the other.
As others have said it wasn’t one sided. Even this idiotic spending “stimulus” isn’t one sided. It isn’t even Obama’s bill. He is just the puppet. That would actually require him to write some legislation. Like that is going to happen in the near future. It’s all about Pelosi and Obama is just playing the role. Almost everything in this is irresponsible. To say but but but BUSH every time is just idiotic.

Congress decided to go to Iraq?
In a major victory for the White House, the Senate early Friday voted 77-23 to authorize President Bush to attack Iraq
Hours earlier, the House approved an identical resolution, 296-133.
Minority Leader Richard Gephardt, D-Missouri, said giving Bush the authority to attack Iraq could avert war by demonstrating the United States is willing to confront Saddam over his obligations to the United Nations.
“To say that because you think the republicans spent way too much money and overspent that that makes it all the sudden right for the left to do it shows a total lack of judgement and knowledge.”
Good point. Of course, if one insists on limiting one’s choices to the two statist parties, then our political system ends up looking like a seesaw: Anything that puts down Republicans is seen as elevating Democrats, and anything that puts down Democrats is seen as elevating Republicans.
Of course, but you guys are funny though…in the same situation with Obama, you’d have no problem saying it was Obama’s decision…and it would be actually…
The same way Bush decided to go to war…
No, on the contrary, right now, you have just 3 RINO’s voting for the package, the rest are against it. They may have been wrong and spineless before. But they are right on this one.
Many of us on the right, railed against Bush and the republicans for the levels of spending, for the stimulas checks that were send out last year, for the huge increases in medicare…I don’t hear many on the left calling their own party out right now all I hear are people blaming Bush for the mess we are in.
The same way people on the Bush camp started to blame Clinton when the economy started going down and the deficit started to look really bad…‘it’s the consequence of the poor job done by Clinton, no long term planning’ etc. etc.
Frankly, although I’m on the left because of the social aspects (help for the poorer folks, health, education etc.) overall, I couldn’t care less who is leading the country, as long as the result are there.
Moreover, as I said in another thread, I think most of the time economists and policy folks are not really good at predicting what is going to happen when something is decided. They’re a lot better at explaining why things happened the way they did…
That’s why I’ll just see what happens with Obama’s plan. As far I am concerned, I think that at this stage, there isn’t enough money in education, energy and research, and these should be priorities, but then again, I may be well off.
