The passing of Bill Walsh

Legendary coach Bill Walsh passed this morning of complications from leukemia. One of the most innovative minds the NFL has ever seen is now gone, but his legacy lives on and will for a very, very long time.

A sad day for 49er fans.

Damn, that’s said to hear. I’ve been a big 49ers fan my whole life. Looks like they might have a playoff team this year.

Very sad. What a fine coach.

Love that commercial, by the way.

A sad day for all fans.
As an SC fan and a Southern Californian, I never liked much about Bill Walsh.
When I heard the news today, though, my stomach dropped a bit when I realized a great sportsman had passed.
Fight On, Bill.

As an SC fan, then you know one of the all-time greats in the game spent many years under Walsh’s direction…Ronnie Lott…so you can’t frown too much upon Walsh…

Here’s a nice article from Fox Sports on Walsh’s influence:

I lived in SF during the great Walsh years and I was a die-hard Cowboy fan, so life was really tough there for me for a while. None the less, I had so much respect for him, similar I suppose to that of Tom Landry. You certainly could easily make the argument that Walsh is the best coach in NFL history.

What’s more important though is that he lost his life to a silly disease. I say silly only because I hope that we one day soon find a cure so that we don’t loose anybody to it. He certainly will be missed and is and always will be appreciated.

A sad day for all sports fans. I read that he started his coaching career coaching high school swimming (and football, of course).

Perhaps the coolest thing about him…or maybe, another of the cool things about him is how respected he remained with his players after they stopped playing. Many of them are still here in the SF Bay Area, and Walsh spent most of his time here as well. They all speak of learning not just football lessons from him, but life lessons as well.

We should all aspire to leave such a legacy.
