maybe Vo2 didn’t change or they can’t see the change, but they added a kg so vo2/kg at a given pace went down, hence “more efficient” ?
ive been in the scene since 2011… im sorry I dont know all the triathletes out there Who ever is talked on this site more, such as Sam Long, I will know. On that note, I saw Jackie Herring like his open data insta post, so I checked and she also is open about power data
I don’t think “added” weight goes into the VO2 max equation. Like if you were doing it on a 15lb bike vs 20 lbs. As I recall it is just your own body weight. But I see what you are leaning into, add external weight and at the same pace the sensors should change their outputs?
Vo2 is ml / min / kg
Is kg goes up , v02 goes down .
A belt can help you feel stability in the bottles and stop lifting you and down to become more efficient.
If the bottle splashes up and down you are wasting energy . If the bottle doesn’t bounce as much you are likely smoother at horizontal hip movement rather then vertical.
I didn’t watch the video yet but those shoes in the picture don’t creat that landing , his hips and back do which he know he has a history of issues with.
Speaking of VO2…
…and unfortunately the return of “fat max”
This video could easily have lost the last minutes, with the Costco favorites and the snake oil. But some parts were really good, as when Sam mentions resisting the idea to race Maryland
This bag thing he’s selling is absurd. It’s a leader in the Club House for the dumbest recovery thing I have ever seen.
Good video. I like to see the man enjoying life and training. Wtf was that air thing. Such a bad look… Gotta pay the bills but that was just beyond ridiculous. He went from selling steak to this bs. It’s tight which is worse between this and all the AG1/IM8/Pillar crap.
Where did that idea come from? Is he back with Plews ?![]()
In the video he does say he’s not going “no carb” and laughed. But I have no idea why he thinks Fat Max is actually a thing.
I think Sam is starting to believe his own publicity.
I like Bob Babbitt and everything, but he really is at his best when he’s talking to non-athletes. I feel like every athlete interview is the same, while with non-athletes he’s great at getting a compelling story out of someone.
Here, Sam’s in the middle of a story about his kids and Bob decides it’s time to do the old “so you were 4th in this race, 2nd in that race, how’’d you say the season’s been going?’
I thought the same when he said he was hiding the activity start times on Strava to avoid getting “stalked”.
Primadonna-ish…
that makes sense, might have some amature who wants to hang on his wheel to be pulled for a PR, at risk of wrecking into him
Have you ever heard of this happening to a pro? And of said amateur refusing to stop sucking wheel after being asked nicely?
I disagree. The best Bob is when he gets interviewed by Taylor!
It happened to Jonas Vingegaard.
Interesting, but did you read the article?
