I’ve seen videos of that surf mix racing in Hawaii.
Those guys are amongst the MOST talented swimmers (and surfriders) I’ve ever seen. I think I’d get pummeled so hard by the surf in those races that I’d drown. Just because they ‘say’ they’re not talented is a completely different issue that actually being talented. It’s like the other guy saying he swims in a club that sent 3 guys in lane 1 to the Olympics claiming he and everyone there is ‘average’ (sorry for confusing you with that guy!).
I think I’m only ‘hard to argue’ because I’m pointing out the obvious. When you’re beating the vast majority of your competition (and 99% of ‘normal people’) it’s a total crock to say you’re ‘average’. Even if you’re training your butt off to beat them.
Fact: On this forum, I don’t think I"ve EVER seen anyone say they were ‘talented.’ Not one person. Even the pros who come here and do a Q&A after crushing races. It’s always, "I wouldnt’ say I was talented, I work REALLY hard, started young, blahblahblah. ANYONE can do what I can, swimming sub 1:10/100 for an IM is not even fast, nor is running 5:30/mi for a half marathon ,you just gotta put in the time.’
What a crock. And sorry, ex-competitive swimmers or FFOP swimmers are the #1 offenders in denying their talent. (Runners seem to ruefully acknowledge that they’re ‘above average’ at least when they’re dropping sub 17 5ks, unless you’re on letsrun.com…)
No I can’t. But given he’s broken down in tears over how hard he’s worked in swimming and still come out with a huge gap in t100 races, and made multiple videos about his commitment to swimming, I don’t think he’s got much more bandwidth to increase swim training for MEANINGFUL improvement. I’d say he’s been trying his hardest this entire time.
Goddard (?Zoot) did a Slowtwitch mini-pod (well two episodes were released mid year).
The first one offered the revelation that after his triathlon career is complete Long aspires to being a ‘stay-at-home dad’/househusband. And that he doesn’t think he’d look good with a moustache.
The second mini-pod was this one:
This article didn’t seem to get much traction (one comment).
Long doesn’t think much of agents/managers but had never had one so he didn’t think he knew much about it, “necessarily”. Partners are paying athletes “fairly”. Long respects all his competitors, particularly those (implicitly behind him) who work a ‘normal’ job.
I wonder whether episodes 3 and 4 will see the light of day?
I’ve seen various reports on this with some tests showing very little difference and some showing that it makes the helmet into a drag chute. I’m guessing this has a lot to do with head position, but I hope Sam has tested this, since he seems to prefer racing w/o a visor so as not to inadvertently self-sabotage.
I commented to Sam on IG that the wingdream often tested much slower without the visor, nd he replied that he lost his visor on the ride over that morning and had to improvise. I assume he’s waiting until the expo to get a new one.
It looks like he is just enjoying the proces. I don’t know it’s the edits or his attitude, but he looks happy. I keep repeating myself. Thankful he is giving us this build towards the IMWC as we don’t have the Kona series this year.
I don’t know where the guy lives, but Sam said he’s shot for Pogi and that he liked his work so much he was bringing him to Nice. That’s all I know about him.
It’s such a great investment. Sams grandkids will be able to watch these videos someday. It’s pretty amazing and i hope he thinks about the stories he is creating because leaving his family with these memories is the ultimate win.
