I guess that the competition for ‘top American’ may get ‘interesting’ between Pearson, West and Long: only a few points between them (each with two scores).
If Long was prepared to travel to Wollongong that’d be plenty of time after Nice and before Marbella. So bouncing from Nice to Valencia is his choice.
Long saying he wants to do well in IMWC and Marbella is small beer, given his form predicts a T100 also ran (outside top 8). He is contracted to race at least 5 T100 races.
Kind of a side note, ear in mind MvR will race both Nice and Marbella, and top women Knibb, LCB, Derron will race Kona and Marbella (Derron Kona only) and Waugh and Spivey will want to accord the WTCS similar priority to T100.
Probably the same reaction those athletes have when race number 2 gets cancelled/rescheduled/replaced at the last moment and they have to pick up a race in Australia or someplace.
If T100 doesn’t have their act together enough so that their calendar is reasonably together, I can’t fault the athletes for not being gung ho about whatever races are still there
I don’t think it is good for any race organization that “pays” it’s athletes for it’s athletes to then have race schedules like they have chosen both last year and this year (all before any of the new race schedule issues have been announced). But as Ajax loves to inject the athletes are meeting their requirements (or assume they do) so all is good. But T100 is on borrowed time. They can’t even get their own shit together, so just add any athlete dissension and it’s just going to continue to be a spectacular car crash at this point seemingly.
Long I think this year is just taking advantage of being able to “provide for his family” even if that means his A race results aren’t there. He’s probaly not right now in the shape to put it together in WC races right now. But again he’s still “young” so if he can finally get his swim going in right direction it’ll only be a huge positive for years to come. So in a way this year can sorta be a “throw a way” year and he still make easily 6 figures on just salary+race winnings and he may not have that much “great results”; other then the B level NA races he’s won/podiumed (which then can pump in sponsor bonuses of winning good but not super strong 70.3 IM events).
@Ajax_Bay The race for the top American is kinda funny. Can N/A (not applicable) be the top choice, lol. I kinda kid, and I hope Pearson can get the bike figured out, cus he’s kinda the answer by default. Poor West, it’s like he kinda came out of the shadows with those blazing splits early in PTO but now that this is a legit league with a bunch of talent, he’s sorta just out of the picture the whole day.
I think this is a really accurate ranking. Some guy I used to race juniors (well, he used to destroy me) had a sub 18 min 1500 LCM and had no issues staying at the front including two Olympic races but could never lead. My guess is that current front pack swimmers are around 17-18 minutes. I could be wrong, but I get the feeling that no one is swimming 16.
Hence why we know for sure that with Lionel and Sam’s 20-21 min 1500 LCM recent performances, they are 100% going to be dropped during the first 100 m from the front pack.
Dude, the chick is swimming in the 16’s and there are a ton of men faster than her, right now…And sam swam a 20 flat and Lionel a 19+, so you seem to be a minute off of what is actually going on…
Are you trolling, forgot how to read, or just looking another timeout for being a dick? Won’t be advocating for having you back this time if they kick you out again.
Just because Gomez swam 15:45 SCM, it does not mean he is currently swimming 15:45. Same goes for Sam and Lionel, Lionel swam 21 minutes, he was under 20 years ago, but he recently swam 21 minutes. Is that so hard to comprehend ?
Also 16:55 is not 16 flat. I did not state 16:XX. I said 16:00 LCM. No one is swimming 16:00 LCM today, not 10 years ago.
Remember several months ago you were convinced that Sam L had improved his swimming and were picking fights with many of us? You were soooo wrong, so don’t be so arrogant.
If you want faster recovery after a hard effort try a ten-minute ice bath right after you cross the line. Follow it with light movement or gentle stretching and you’ll cut down on inflammation and soreness
If you’re going into race week, ice bath is a good idea.
Otherwise it reduces muscle growth:
“Cold water immersion attenuated long term gains in muscle mass and strength. It also blunted the activation of key proteins and satellite cells in skeletal muscle up to 2 days after strength exercise.”
