Ya, perceived effort. So Lionel really just trains himself into a hole so he’s always tired and can’t tell if he’s working hard?
It’s hard to relate as I’ve never approached his volume or intensity, but the whole 80/20 thing should be a pretty reasonable guide. I get it that at top level you want to get more precise but with a data set of one, not taken in scientific conditions at regular intervals etc the margin of error has to grow to such an extent to make it not all that different than the simple easy, medium, hard scale.
I don’t really know, just going off Lionel’s you tube info and it’s accuracy. ( also I can’t remember the exact numbers )
I am just saying his blood lactate is never close to his performances. he really need to get help at figuring out more how to make the race performance match the metabolic numbers.
Like I think he just ran at 3-3:10 a km at zone 1 it was, I guarantee Lange can’t do that yet Lange out runs his every Ironman.
These guys in particular are mentioned often and a lot. Macca is still heavily invested in the sport (BV13, Supertri etc), Frodo is obviously still very relevant considering he commentates at a bunch of events, and Crowie is included wherever possible (especially at Kona).
Yes a lot of people come and go, but the special ones are very much still mentioned, I don’t see Lionel going away too soon after he retires. He’s good for the sport and I’m sure Ironman/PTO know it.
Hey, what’s the deal with this part of his bike on the trainer? Is that really the bottom of his arm cup where is it some kind of stationary platform? Seems super big and I didn’t know if it was an aero thing or if that’s some kind of special thing that people would put on for indoor training. The reason I ask is it looks like those hand grips look more plastic you like you’d see on an indoor bike versus something you’d see on a race bike
Sheesh this video series did start too early as it made me assume Kona was this weekend. Plus one vote on following the Sherpas around (Erin) for a day
Yeah, I thought the same thing. Wonder why it’s so much later this year. Maybe they need time between nice and Kona to get things ready? At least this way we can watch the World Series, college football, and Kona all on the same day! It’s like the most wonderful day of the year.!!
I imagine there is an aero benefit though I don’t know that definitively. I think its more about getting additional surface area support on the forearm which is typically more comfortable.
Next year IRONMAN have gone for IMWCs on 14 Sep - 11 Oct (4 weeks v 5 this year).
Last year Nice date was driven by needing to be done in Nice before the RWC, so early, and IMWC(W) was 5 weeks later.
Next year IRONMAN have gone for IMWCs on 14 Sep - 11 Oct (4 weeks v 5 in 2023 and 2024).
This year the 70.3WC’s date is not a factor cos so late but next year it’s 8/9 Nov so the women need to get IMWC in Kona done earlier than this year’s Kona. NB Marbella will clash with one or more T100 races.
In this case, its likely aerodynamics - or at least in the sense that the piece is fastest as a closed-off system. Here’s a clip of Sanders testing this for his wind-tunnel video. You can see in this case its electrical tape covering the unit for testing purposes, to be replaced in its final iteration with a more polished item. Whether a monobar is faster more generally is another question.
I have no idea how much sense Lionel’s use of lactate makes, if any, but him doing something consistently (other than eating junk) is always a good sign.
Yep,as the pro’s arrive I hope we get to see them hanging out and just doing normal stuff so we get to know them. Yet another series of the same training videos is boring as batshit to me . There is a lot more to these people than lactate testing and training repetition.
Pretty sure last time we got that kind of series Lionel walked the Queen K and I don’t think he’s trying to do that this year. Talbot has to work around what Lionel wants to do not the other way around.
