The Official, All Encompassing, Lionel Sanders Thread

I would assume top level athletes almost assuredly have it negotiated in their sponsor contracts for bonuses and/or the pre race / post race pics with sponsors (regardless of said companies footprint in tri). Said large companies would almost expect it as part of contract negotiations. LS has Pat as a manager, you can expect he would be maxing out negotiations for his clients.

I remember hearing a marathon runner Clayton Young once shared that he negotiated away his larger bonus to place in the top 10 for a appearance fee that was smaller than the bonus, but a little larger than a normal appearance fee so he no longer felt like he needed to race for safe position and be financially ok with risking an epic blow-up.Just a unique perspective I thought was interesting.

I mean there is going to be a hundred ways pros are negotiating comtracts. There is no “correct” way, but to LS’s pov. It would be my guess is that his lowest portion of pie financially is from race results (and associated bonuses). But that’s what can happen when you have the pull and power that he, LCB have,

Obviously if you win a large prize purse, of course that will be a larger pie of money for said year. LS has what 1 podium in 10 years at the biggest money races, in our sport? Even Oceanside a top early season race the top prize purse- is it even $25k? Eta- winner gets $7500

Two. IM WC St. George 2022 as well.

Yeah Boston last year.

Sure, but that’s unfair to Lionel. Red Bull’s marketing and sponsorships are different in North America, it’s more about who they’re trying to sell product to and Triathlon doesn’t move the needle in North America.

Two time 2nd place in the last 10 years at IMWC is more 2nd place finishes at that race than most people in this sport.

Also, only 9 other people have a Challenge The Championship Title

Also won ITU World Long Distance Champs in 2017 with that Challenge Championship title and 2nd in Kona FWIW.

Still on the Dallas start list:

I also note: Quinn, Gharper, Reed, Lewis, Metzler, Weaver in the higher bib numbers,
Hering with a ‘run out’ in WPro.

I’ve been resting my run legs after some stress with a recent marathon and damn, watching these Lionel videos finally helps me to appreciate how this guy just loves to go from rebuild from an injury to start running some fast intervals. I’d love to do nothing more than go pound out a 3x5’ this weekend. So I’m a little more sympathetic to his past videos where I criticized for jumping into intensity too quickly….

Didn’t know Salvisberg was now racing as a Swede!

what the loser? not doing oceanside 70.3 so he can compete against B athletes. i thought it was the TX 140.6 that he was doing

I think he’s still planning on doing IM TX 140.6. The 70.3 in Galveston hasn’t been a Pro race for 3-4 years I think. It’ll be interesting to see how Lionel does (if he actually shows up) in TX. It’s the perfect bike course to show off those 20m draft rule legs.

With Dallas 70.3 right around the corner, who are the super swimmer+bike guys who will be setting the pace? Who will Lionel have around him if comes out of the swim second-pack and starts to work his way up? Who are the threats if he is really “on” for the day? Any updates on his workouts or how he’s feeling? THANKS!

Threats in a “B” race? There aren’t any and Lionel should jog this one in.

Yeah, doesn’t look exciting at all for a mid distance race. Not sure why some folks thing this is exciting to watch (i.e. top B level guy smoking lower ranked athletes)

Jackson Laundry is going to be there

I don’t think so. Ari Klau will be though.
