But but, how will I get kudos?
I know youāre joking, but even if you donāt want to see how youāre doing mid-race, thereās probably still value in capturing data from the watch. Seeing that you slowed around the buoy or back half of the swim, etc. seeing that you always fade at 15k of the run, or that you started too quicklyā¦
I guess the solution would be to use the watch but set it to a watch face where you canāt see your metrics. Standard clock or maybe a map could work.
I just donāt look at it. I wear it for the data review, but i know i canāt go any harder so it is what it is on the run. HR pegged so itās not like i can say, Oh i need to speed up, haha.
Thatās a workout of 3 weeks ago. Since then he almost hasnāt ridden on Zwift. Seems like heās injured
I must admit, not having race kudos has drastically affected my life lol.
I would love to have that discpline, but I would have to look. Itās been really refreshing - and I am a pretty good pacer anyways so I donāt worry about anything other than how I am feeling. I know people love to get the data and such - itās just freeing for me to have that one effort where HR doesnāt matter, pace doesnāt matter, everything is out there in the time. I donāt overthink and I just race. Thatās me. But I think lots of us could benefit from not data analyzing during a race
I know what you mean. Recently I was in Hawaii and on my day after travel shake out run, I felt like crap, and low and behold, my HR was like I was in race pace mode on an easy run. Next day it was much better. During the actual race in the half marathon, my heart rate was 15-20bpm higher than what it normally is all race. So in the first half of the race my heart was like it normally was during the later stages whenever Iām not in Hawaii. At the end of the race, I was pretty much 100% max record heart rate, where I never get elsewhere.
I wasnāt looking at my HR during the run, but afterwards as I go through things, I look back and think, āoh, thatās why I was feeling like I ran the hardest race of my life, but my pace was nearly 10min slower than my fastest HMā.
During the race, I mostly use my watch just to look at time to give my brain something to think about and crunch some numbers. Iāll glance at the pace it shows, but I donāt put a lot of stock in whatever the pace is reading at that precise instant.
I do agree with you though that it is liberating to just run free and not even have the thought to look at your watch. Itās a fair point and Iām assuming in a lot of races it can help get the best out of yourself for an experienced athlete.
I think the varied reasons people show up to an event and the wide range of fitness in the field determine how much people care about results and statās. I have found that top age groupers are the ones who seem to care more about placings and āgloryā over those who are just showing up for a laugh (which is most of the field in any race)
Racing in Cairns and Penticton during the 90ās and 2000ās I saw so many egoās in the top 10 of each race (especially in Cairns) get crushed when a Pro or two would show up and destroy the field as part of their training morning.
I have never taken the sport as seriously as many here, data and performance wise,as it has always been a lifestyle thing for me and I have even told people that I have won the odd race or two āby accidentā. Like so many races though, the ones that went perfectly are generally not as fun to talk about as the epic disasters. Now those ones live long in the memory and make for the best āremember whenā stories.
So does ANYONE (who is willing & able to share the info) know if Lionel is injured, how badly, how severe of a setback, etc. I believe there was a strain after an intense run session that lingered until the next day, and resulted in him pulling out of Eagleman. It would be great to have a clue as to whether this a minor setback or potentially season ending.
Considering he just put out a videoā¦thatās probably it and heās still training.
That was my hope, but someone else posted that the workout on the most recent video is about three weeks old and there has been virtually nothing on Zwift since then.
He did a bike ride on Zwift on June 3 and has been riding pretty consistently on there.
Ah you mean that 36min ride for a total of 3h in 7 days.
Lionel seems off the grid (no workouts posted on Zwift), is he still injured?
On the most recent Triathlon Hour podcast, Ari confirmed Lionel has a minor glute injury. He thought Lionel had mentioned that in his most recent video, which I do not believe is the case, so he inadvertently spilled the beans.
Didnāt @talbotcox not tell us that here? When he pulled out of Eagleman?
