The Official, All encompassing Gwen Jorgensen thread

I tried searching for the paris doc, and it sent me to WT, and I couldn’t figure out where it was within the WT documents page. From past olympics, they also have used different “eligibility’ rankings; olympic points and overall world ranking if I remember correctly. That was coming into play for GJ during her 'comeback” attempt; there were 2 different rankings that could have made her eligible (and they weren’t the same number among each ranking)

So back to the bit- ITU always making it as complicated as it can.

but it gives clicks for Gwen lol and I think Gwen alone outperforms the whole itu 2028 thread by factor 2 …. ( dev was right after all lol)

100% because no one gives a shit about itu, and no it’s not because there is a 1 massive itu thread. We could have a race day thread for every itu race even and it’ll still be the same 6 of us bantering in it (that’s happening now when people pull posts from one thread to another). No one cares about itu until the olympics. So like the bike racing thread- put us in the corner and leave it be. Again let’s have itu race day threads (we usually do for them right?..Jackets starts them generally?) and ST race report that turns into it’s own thread by all means; it still won’t get clicks and new people caring (so no I dont think Dev is right, that we need more individual itu content…no one cares about itu; (again by all means let Dev start any and every itu content idea he or anyone wants and it won’t get any traction beyond the same people bantering about it). Ryan talks about this every time Diablo complains about lack of itu coverage.

that is still the same, there is the world ranking which decides who gets into races

and the olympic ranking which decides who gets a slot for their nation for the games

and the new flag spots goes via the world ranking (ie for the olympic ranking conti cup races dont count while for the new flag spots and the world ranking -they do)

and now I go back to think about hookless and not hookless rims.

Yes and as you stated again yesturday about the “complications”…if it can be complicated (to the point that “experts” are arguing on the process), it will be ITU approved. Everything itu related basically boils down to that bit. And we kinda wonder why people don’t care about this format of racing except for 1 race; where no one knows the complications of how the athletes got there- you just see “your” athlete and cheer for them for those 2 days. I really wonder how this WT/PTO merger is going to go. It seems like the only thing keeping the DL format in the olympics is the “time frame” that LC non-draft events take; and thus such a negative. But now that the merger is in place and the “whispers” of T100 wanting an olympic event…I mean it’s at minimum doing everything it can to replace it without replacing or at least adding (which no one thinks they’ll “add” events; it’ll only be “replace”)

the very last thing ( as it really annoys me)

in my opinion they just dont want to treat the issue

the issue is the points are not distributed correctly. ie its way easier for make 200 150 points or whatever points in an african cup in Zimbabwe than a World Cup race or european cup . so earning 200 points in one race is not as earning 200 points in another ( and often not even close ) as they use too little strenght of field differentiation and the difference from 500 points for world cups to 300 euro in a euro cup and 250 for an african cup just does not stack up ( same with world series it should count for more in my mind) , if they did that correctly they could make the world ranking also the oly ranking and it would be easier for people to understand

and the 2nd issue here is new flag candidates basically have to jet around the world to race the weakest fields to get a slot ( nothing to do with the self proclaimed sustainability world tri proclaims) its basically who flies the most and gets lucky.

This is one pathway that developing US athletes take advantage of every year. If there are early season WC events, they’ll race the early season Caribbean CC races (or warm Florida weather races) to get quick points boost, where generally the Euro’s wont show up for.

However, those early season CC races in the US and Caribbean are shrinking. I think even in the US, there is only 1 CC race this year; pre-covid we maxed our 3 every year and atleast 2 were early March.

Help us here. Who are these experts (plural) who are “arguing”? @pk knows lots about this stuff and, my god, he’s done his level best. Had a quick look up thread and can’t identify any other “experts”.
The Olympic movement (IOC) and World Tri have a combination of aims/requirments/limitations and of necessity threading that needle is not simple. Fortunately the protocol is clearly laid out for everyone volitionally to comprehend.

Please no t100 in the Olympics. Supertri was much more exciting to watch and I still think Joe Blow is much more likely to watch Supertri. Personally much prefer ITU to long distance. Long distance is just too boring to watch

I don’t disagree it’s just really interesting now that pto/t100 now is in full partnership with WT to the point of rebranding more similiar to Txxx than not. Itu doesn’t even add up properly it’s just a fake number cus t50.5 doesn’t work.

Pto now has an “in” to board meetings, ioc contacts etc now that they and WT are full “partners” now.

2nd place at americas cup gulfport. 18:18 for the 5k as fastest run time… long run? Obviously a B race that abu dubai is out

Yes long run close to 10% extra variance (which is within rules). She lost it more missing the front bike group when others who swam same pace made it.

The Wove saddle tent makes an appearance in the video as well as Gwen

:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

So not much time on TT is reason for poor result, but she doesnt seem interested in improving it. looks like her old collar bone crash gave her ptsd in going for it at the crit/road races. kind of where I am at now. it would be nice if WTCS did a differnet format , racing for points (or money?) rather than just over all time. Doing primes on the bike and bonus points for taking the bike win. Same can be done with swim and run.

Thanks for posting up that video MrTri, where you been lately?Have to say it was the most interesting and fun one I have seen from her. Always kind of blandish and fast forward material, but this was great start to finish. And what a great fun weekend of work, its how we used to do it in the old days..
