What a terrible position, explains the time. That Canyon will probably do her better
Here is her position now, a bit better but still with some work..
| 2 | Flora Duffy | F-PRO | 0:10:21 | 0:29:25 | 0:17:44 | 0:57:28 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | Gwen Jorgensen | F-PRO | 0:10:25 | 0:30:28 | 0:16:50 |
this is in a way a good example how much change there will going from 12 to 20 will make int the results.
there is Gwen which was never really a bike powerhouse in drafting, and flora one of the top 5 cyclists in itu ever and Gwen was pretty close, but still beat one of the better half distance people of the time. in an less than optimal bike position.
good is just good .
and of course in a draft legal race she wins ,but to be fair her postion on he bike was as bad as it gets and she still was almost 2nd
Dude that is a race from the stone ages, using that to compare to anything going on today is pointless. Not to mention that Gwen was in her prime, and Flora would leap heaps ahead of this spot over the next decade, surpassing just about everyone.
Just commenting on her post. I suppose it’s possible that the enthusiasm of IM listening to the pros swept her up into LD triathlon… but many of us have been saying for some time her short course work is likely prep to sharpen the LD edge.
T100 has offered her a spot at 20m and she never took it.
Glad to see her jumping in and excited to see the impact!
This lady’s name is Jackie Hering. Maybe you meant to post in a different thread?
Tl;dr - She would’ve preferred to stay at 12m, mostly because then she can ride with others and generally enjoy the racing more. She might put a little more emphasis on her biking, within her overall training schedule.
I thought to post this in one of the three 12>20m threads but actually its S/N ratio is low.
Oh my goodness. I looked quick I thought it was Gwen
Yikes
Thank you for catching this
Sorry to all for the mistake
I was so confused by you placing it in this thread. Also, like, uh, read the channel name lol…
Not to worry, it’s the only reason I watched this putting it here. Would never have clicked otherwise, so she owes you a candy bar for all the extra hits..
Regarding Gwen’s bike strength, I would tend to agree with most that it seems such a weakness in ITU that she would be exposed in non drafting, BUT….
Morgan Pearson has been an exemple of someone with a big bike weakness in ITU, actually getting dropped from packs from time to time, who has been able to bike rather well in his last 2 or so races in non drafting.
So you never know. Maybe it’s the explosive power part she has trouble with, and she’s actually pretty good steady-state ?
As seen in her island tri steady state is weakness. ITU requires more explosive efforts to hang with the pack
Island house was 10 years ago, and her position on the bike was abysmal
too bad her and many other pros hide power numbers from us data nerds
Right, we agree, and that’s why she has trouble in the ITU bike, especially making the pack out of T1, cause she is lacking that kind of power.
As said in my previous post, I would have agreed that she probably is not good at TTing, but Pearson has shown me you can be bad at ITU biking and pretty good at TTing. Or at least become pretty good rather quickly (Pearson 5’30 and 8’ back on the bike his first 2 T100 races, without Wilde, and “only” 3’ back on the last one).
So like Kajet said, one bad race 10 years ago (and really doesn’t seem that bad to me, a minute back in 20k to Flora Duffy 2016 isn’t horrible) doesn’t mean she can’t make it.
I think however we will never know, I don’t see her doing long distance anytime soon.
all she needs to do is a TT . merckx or time trial. if anyone can get pat to get her to do one… would be a great fresh youtube content video too
I get what you’re saying but I’d say he’s inconsistent at ITU biking. He’s had some great races against many of the best:
I have no idea what demons he deals with, but it seems like there’s something else going on besides simply being bad at biking. I mean, you can say inconsistent is bad, but I think it does a disservice to diagnosing his issue to simply say he’s bad at it.
Sure, I can agree on inconsistent. It’s just that it’s so uncommon for top athletes to get dropped from a pack, even at just a single race, that when it happens a couple times to the same athlete, I just assume he must be really bad (compared to other ITU pros I mean, he’s for sure not bad compared to mere mortal triathletes !) and when he sticks to the pack, he’s just surviving ! But he’s proved himself anywas at T100 !
He only really had one good (one could argue great) bike in ITU at Karlovy Vary a couple of years ago. And that’s a course that’s probably quite good if you’re more steady state.
