I’m on record as saying more triathlon is better than less triathlon as well as saying there’s still tactics with a field of 10, in this very thread. There is a point where the tactic becomes less of a tactic and a bit of a shit show and dice roll. 50 is too much to funnel them into a swim group, then into a funnel chute and onto a bike. The physical reality of dimensional space just pushes the athletes back and to the side and so on. The bigger the group the more the effect.
I’m making an argument of ideal competition first. Implementation is another discussion.
Implementation should be the overriding factor though or it just turns into mindless silly ST “fixing” everything tri related with no real world applicability.
I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you. Heats/finals works at shorter distances in the “real world” for itu; it’s already been done countless times. Funny enough usat had me be on site team us coach for the 1st heat/finals many years ago at a Pan Am CC and report back to them what I thought.
You guys are delusional if your argument is that everyone that stayed in the front pack could out bike Siffert without draft, she probably got caught at the back, missed a corner etc. Just look at the dozens if not hundreds of front of the pack ITU guys that have tried their hand at 70.3 and failed to make a mark.
On the other hand you have the likes of Bogen and Laidlow who had very modest ITU results and see how they are doing now.
Again, the draft equalizes the bike and makes it boring.
Wow, that’s a big jump. I heard she had a big jump in her run as well. Have to love it when it all comes together. Will she be in kona? I think i heard she won’t?
I believe siiferts goal was to try to make it to the Olympics, I assume they bottled it .
I have no idea when .
Any way different folks different strokes and you have find what works for you.
I can’t read your article ,
But on her website it does say her initial goal was the Olympics ,
So at least I wasn’t imagining things.
“offered me the opportunity to join his team of professional triathletes and train for the 2028 Olympic Games. I thought I was in a dream and with my competitive nature, I immediately said yes”
