Don’t know about the next Armstong… but, I recorded these two fellas at a local Pro/1/2 crit who were off the front the whole race!!!
is Lowe not Australian?..so maybe the next Phil Anderson.

No one said anything about the next great American, it was next Lance Armstrong and with that I assumed a great stage racer. And yes Trent Lowe is Australian.
All 3 guys I mentioned can climb and TT, Raisin actually crashed in the Tour De Georgia TT and still finished 33rd on that stage.

I wouldn’t peg Tom as the next great stage racer yet… you might want to pick some proven young riders like Cunego, Valverde, Menchov and Popovich. All of these guys are climbers more then TT riders, but that seems to be a skill that developes a bit later in a stage racers career.
You are very much right about those guys, I just mentiond the first names that came to me after my TdG trip.

I hate to admit it, but the next Michael Jordan is already here. I don’t think the next LA(5-6 time Tour winner) is on the horizon yet but the next Museeuw surely is.

… And, unfortunately, the next Ali is probably an inside linebacker in the NFL, or a power forward in the NBA (Male heavyweight boxing is d.e.a.d.)

don’t get me wrong - i think Tom is the real deal - dropping FL & a 2-time top 10 TdF ain’t a half assed ride. he just needs more long races before he hits LA level. i think he will do well in the Giro - he might have a Cadel type moment in the third week but he wouldn’t be the first one (remember Zulle in pink going backwards - man that was a sad day for Swiss cycling fans)
i think disco will be very competitive at the giro especially b/c they come in as outsiders and spectators to the Basso vs. the impending implosion of Lampre.
Tom won’t finish top 10 - but i bet he’s top 10 to Zoldo Alto (first mountain top at stage 11)!

yea - Salvodelli = past winner - had the race handed to him once the top 3 guys were kicked out. oh yea and best descender / bike handler - seriously how many times does this guy have to crash before people say he can’t keep the rubber side down…
ha - i’m kidding of course - he is a solid racer and has had two very bad years to now try and make up. he’ll be strong for sure - he can probably wait out the initial fireworks of Gibo vs. Cunego vs. Garzelli vs. Cioni vs. DeLuca and then all he has to do is sit on Basso’s wheel up the steep climbs and wait for the TTs.

THose things don’t exist. There are pretty good (read great) players in the NBA, but they just have slightly different skills or play different positions than Jordan. You can’t compare and should not.
